    CCI shot shell/snake shot

Just a heads up. It's been several years since I've seen any CCI .38/.357 snake shot available and Cabalas has both the loaded cartridge's and the empty capsules that you load yourself in stock right now. I ordered enough of both to last the rest of my life and pass on to my grandson someday. Found .22 Magnum snake shot loaded cartridge's on another site and ordered a ****load of them as well. Cabalas has the .44 special empty capsules on backorder so I have some of them on order.
With all the .410 pistols available everywhere but California I suspect a reduced demand for the center fire snake shot cartridge's in the future from CCI so you never know how long they'll continue to support them. .22's seem to be available all the time but not the center fire. If it's something you can use you best strike while the iron is hot.
I see them also being made in 9mm and .40 cal as well. I'm wondering how or if that works in a semi-auto. I know there are 9mm revolvers out there. Any thoughts or experience on that?

I wonder if it is possible to get a shot shell weighing in at 240gr and then see how it performs outta the dirty bird.

Worst case I switch over to the Ranch hand...

Many years ago we used Speer capsules, I bought a five pound bag of #12 shot for these but did load a few 12 & 20 ga shells with #12 shot for use at station 8 they did a number on the clay coming from high or low house.
BTW loaded some 38/357 with buckshot using those capsules may even have some left.

I make my own for 38 spl.

            -primer-
            -3 grains of Bullseye-
-Hornady gas check loaded cup down-
-fill case to just shy of top with #9-
-overshot wad made of styrofoam drink cup-
            -hvy crimp-
-hot wax smeared on top of over shot wad.

Started out using a GC over powder, and another over shot. Then they got expensive. Styrofoam is free.

Gives an approx 12" circle of death at 10', from a 4" revolver.

I carry 9x19 and 40sw shotshells on hunting trips. They don't cycle The slides. I believe it's stated on the box. the 9mm shotshell worked well enough with 1 shot on a 3' rattler 30" away from the muzzle 12" away from my feet.

How did you cut the styrofoam? Press a resized case in and twist?

I bought a leather punch set that I use to cut styrofoam circles. Off Amazon for like $13. I think I saved it.

Good to know. I'll save your recipe. I think the Cabalas ad for the capsule's said which load manual had the load data for the empty CCI capsule's.

That's what I was thinking about the 9mm and .40 cal in a semi-auto. You'd have to load one in the chamber and that's it.

I roll my own also... I've done it with the styrofoam method, gas check method and still come back to the convenience of the Speer capsules. The one thing I will say is I believe that these need to have a VERY slight crimp. it really keeps them from walking out if you have them loaded up. I say slight crimp, because any more than slight cracks the capsule.

Looks good. I ordered 100 of those CCI capsule's in .38/357

I was out South of Steele Peak last Wednesday sighting in a new scope on my AR and I spent a couple of hours poking around the rock piles down by the power lines looking for rattlesnakes after I finished shooting. Didn't find any. Probably not quite hot enough that day. .22 snake shot works well enough but that .38/.357 snake shot seals the deal on their ***'s. Gone are the days when if you needed a box you just go buy a box. What a PITA things have become. Now I find them and I gotta buy enough to last YEARS cause who knows what the future holds.

estimated shipping date of 38/357 capsules is 1-2 weeks
estimated shipping date of 44LC is capsules 6-7 weeks

Went ahead and ordered two boxes of each anyway. I have enough for my immediate needs.
