    Titegroup

Ok.. I'm sorry if this is beat over the head subject already but I had to bring it up on CG since it's a huge thread on the subject on another forum I frequent.

Here is the deal.. EVERYONE has a grudge with Titegroup powder.. I have 2lbs unsealed and had planned on using it until I did some research on it and I just see negativity left and right.. is it that bad of a powder or is it just one that should be used with very very extreme caution even for the most experienced loaders..? I am a beginner and haven't been able to source much in my area other than Titegroup and Unique..

I am reloading 9mm and 10mm for the majority.. and I have been told to ditch the Titegroup if I can in a trade for something else.

So u bring a known controversial topic here to see what u can stir up??? Naughty naughty!!!

Anyways, tightgroup is used in droves in the world of comp shooting.
Does it take very small charger weights, and is there little room between min and max..... Yes.
So the rule is procede with caution and make sure of ur charges.
Just be smart and it should be fine.
    Tons of people use it.

I don't find anything bad about Titegroup.
It can be dangerous because if your not careful you can double or triple charge.
Also always double check the listed charge, OAL for a bullet weight.

Don't guess. If you don't have data. Don't load it.

      Be safe.

Naw not trying to stir anything.. just the other forum is more wide spread across the country and I wanted the opinion of people closer to me seeing as we have reloading groups and I could bring it to a meet and get first hand tips on how to properly use it with my loads.

People who don't know any better claim that it burns hotter and melts the bases of lead bullets. Not possible. If you don't use enough and shoot ill fitting hardcast bullets, you will get gas cutting and that's what causes leaded barrels.

It is denser than the fluffy powders like Clays, Red Dot and Unique and you can double charge with it if you are careless with your reloading. You can also do that with Bullseye and virtually any powder in a 38 or 357 case so don't do that.

Other than that, it performs well and you have enough to load somewhere around 2500 rounds. You should be happy.

If you are single stage loading do this. Drop the powder, immediately seat the bullet and you are good to go. No double charging and no missed charges.

Titegroup was the first powder I used when I started reloading, and is still my choice for 9mm. It is a very economical powder, which means that you don't need a lot in the case to achieve your desired results. Just take it slow and cautiously at first until you know what you are doing.

I think it's a great powder because I'm a cheap bastard. And because it works really well.

(My favorite TG myth is that it makes the gun too hot to touch after a high round count stage in action pistol.)
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

Titegroup is my go-to 9mm powder. It's a little dirty, it can be tricky to meter at small volumes with certain powder measures, and it's possible to double-charge without overflowing the case, but those are basically the only downsides I've seen so far.

As others have mentioned, it's apparently insanely popular with competition shooters, or at least IDPA shooters. At last year's Nats, around 37% of the people surveyed said they used Titegroup. I'm not sure about the other shooting sports, though.

Titegroup is all I've used for 9mm for years.

Powder Valley releases updates via Facebook. Over the past few years, the most whining I've heard was in regards to them not having enough Varget and Titegroup.

If it's crappy powder, it sure is in high demand.

TG isn't my favorite because it seems to be dirtier that some others, but it's all I have right now and works fine for 9mm. Can't comment on 10mm. Seems to meter very consistently.

But, hey, everything's dangerous if you're not careful.

A powder being dirty doesn't bother me.. just means clean the guns more often or a little longer session.

Imma try it out for my 9mm loads and save the Unique for 10mm loads.. especially if I can get a good 2000-2500 rounds out of my 2lbs.

                              Titegroup

I was a noobie when I started using Titegroup and I turned out fine. I'm a little OCD, though. Just be extra careful. Buy a RCBS lockout die if you're using a progressive. It's a handy little die. I use Titegroup exclusively for .45ACP. It can burn a little smokey and dirty, but one of my enjoyments is cleaning my guns. You should look into W231/HP38 for what you're loading.
