Question on selling used brass? Value?

First off, no I don't have any and this is not a for sale thread!

I have always used Blazer aluminum .40 for my range time. I'm wondering though if I should switch to the brass so I can collect them and sell them to someone who reloads.

I buy by the 1,000 round case. How much would 1,000 brass .40 shells go for used?

I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth paying the extra $ for the brass if I can sell them for more than the cost difference between the aluminum.

I'm also wondering what 1,000 shells of aluminum would go for at the recycler? It's a much better grade of aluminum than just like aluminum cans but I'm wondering if they know that and honor it?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Range: Glock 23C
    WTB: Glock 23 RTF2 w/Fish Gills

Aluminum is aluminum as far as the recycler is concerned, since it has to be reprocessed before reuse. Check the Private Reloading Sales listings for current brass pricing.

I for one am glad to hear that first off...

I think I have seen current prices for .40 CLEANED going for about .03-.05 each. My recco is that you check gun broker. www.gunbroker.com

I can buy several thousand there for about .05 or maybe less.

I think aluminum is aluminum, but I would have it all saved in a bucket for them to see. They might consider it to be DIRTY (primer and gun powder residue) I thought I had seen some recyclers treat brass cases like that.

Anyways, my advice, switch to brass because brass is better anyways... I don't care if the facts say anything different, I say brass is better.

Recycle it yourself and keep all of the savings.

Now to decide what kind of press to get.

So does brass go for more than aluminum per lb at the recycler?

Brass brings $1.40 to $1.45 per pound. Spent primers bring the same price. Leave the primers in when recycling your brass.

            Not certain on aluminum pricing

Scrap price really depends on location. AL was about $0.45/lb last time I took a load in. Don't know about brass here anymore since I don't have enough saved up to bother loading it.
