Most LE agencies use either winchester Ranger 55grn soft points or Hornady TAP in 62 grn. Those that use Winchester usually do so because the bean counters like the idea that they can get it on government bid lot prices and the CHP use it.
Those that use TAP do so because it performs better in a variety of guns and does a great job at what it was meant to do.

        ???

Truly, I am baffled / worried about the increasingly pacified state of our society. When it even manifests in folks who own arms such as the AR, well it's even more perplexing.

It makes me sick just to choose a round based on its ability to kill a man.
Then choose a round based on it's effectiveness in stopping an attack on yourself or someone you love. If it also happens to be effective at killing a man, then only use it where killing an attacker is justified.

I know a couple CHP SWAT Officers in my area and they use a variation of the Winchester 64 gr. Super X, Power-Point, but theirs have the cannelure. I believe Winchester used to produce the cannelure in 64 gr. specifically for them, known as the Q3246 "Knurled" load. The CHP contract stipulates a bullet with a cannelure to prevent feeding failures in its AR-15 rifles.

They also use the Hornady TAP for Police in 75 gr.

quite possibly one of the most ridiculous myths floating around the internet. the 5.56 was and is still designed to KILL people.

there would be alot of bad 'flak' coming to the US if we started using ammo to torture people and not simply to kill them. the object in war is to kill the enemy, and thats what the 5.56 round does. war is not about maiming people and then allowing them to bleed and suffer. although many might agree that its due punishment, another topic entirely.

Sorry to break this to you, but it's the truth. As much as you enjoy target shooting and dove hunting, the true reason the Founders wrote the 2nd Amendment is FOR that SHTF scenario.
