    Reloading Savings Math

I did some work in the garage this weekend on several different calibers and here's my cost per 20 (using my brass) vs. commercial prices (from Grafs, so they include shipping):

    Armscor 55grn .223 $3.51 ($6.99)
    Nosler Balliastic Tip 50grn .223 $6.33 ($24.99)
    Hornaday V-Max 123grn 7.62x39 $5.25 ($12.99)
    Prvi Partisan 150grn SP .303 British $6.08 ($13.99)

    The savings adds up...

Very nice. One of these days I'll do something like that for my reloads, 9mm and .308.

Honestly, if I had the time I would make a break-even analysis spreadsheet that you could enter in all your equipment, the current costs of powder, primers and bullets, against the current cost of a box of cartridges at your local walmart. The spreadsheet would calculate how many rounds you would need to load and shoot before everything started to pay for itself.

Of course, I would also add in the ability to include different calibers.

I would like to see that spread sheet, that would get more people to load their own bullets.

depends on the press, how experienced you are with the press.

a high end press can probably do 100 rds in a few minutes.
another could take an hour or more?..
im getting into reloading so thats just my estimated guess.

Wow, what would a "high end press" that could do 100 rds in a few minutes cost? Any brands, models in mind that you could suggest?

Don't forget to quantify the value of ammo that's more accurate in your gun because the load is tuned for the gun.
Also don't forget to quantify the sense of self sufficiency you get by loading for yourself.

                          Dillon Precision XL650.

Complete setup starting around $2000 for ALL the best stuff.
That will have you loading about 700rds per hour.

depending how much your time is worth to you reloading can cost more than buying ammo at walmart

but for me i got more time than money

2 years ago i thought it was crazy to reload 9mm when you get it at walmart 100 for $10.97
and i was reloading my blazer brass that i bought for $11 a box

now that it has doubled to $19.97 i'm reloading

i guess a person just reaches a thresh hold where they have all they can stand and can't stand no more.
