    Tumbling your brass

Ok calguners I need your help once again. I both myself a tumbler and was wondering if I made the right choice. I've been using walnut media and Nu shine wax and it does do a good enough job for reloading I usually let it sit for 4 hours. However the inside of the brass is usually still dirty but clean enough to reload and the primer pockets still look the same. Is there any media that also cleans the primer pocket so it makes my reloading go faster or will I have to change to a different method of tumbling. Links would be appreciated with the comments. Thanks in advance

Do you guys clean the primer pockets for pistol on all your brass when reloading for target practice? On you tube I see people reloading without cleaning the primer pockets

Unless your in a hurry leave it tumble over night.
If you want nice primer pockets get yourself a primer pocket uniformer. It will do more for your reloads thany any form of shiny brass will ever do.

I dont worry about the inside of the cases unless they have dirt in em (range pick-ups). They are going to get dirty again anyway when I shoot them.

Primer pockets only get uniformed/cleaned for rifle ammo that I am loading for match type accuracy. but even then I dont do some of the other stuff some do such as neck turning/uniforming ETC.

Walnut is good for cleaning, but if you want it to shine use corncob media

Have to agree here. For handgun loads, I don't care about the primer pockets or the insides of the cases. My tumbling medium is a 50/50 mixture of walnut (Petco's "Lizard Litter") and Lyman's treated corn cob media. Gets the outside of the cases both clean and shiny.

One way to clean the inside is use an ultrasonic cleaner. I've done it in the past but was a pain in the butt. I use lizard bedding from petsmart, it's small and cleans the best for me. I add a drizzle of Nu shine and let it run. I clean all primer pockets with a wire pocket cleaner attached to a power drill. Barely touch the pocket and it's clean as a whistle.

                ^^^This.
Walnut reptile bedding works great for brass that uses small primers. Corncob tends to get stuck in the flash holes when I use them. If your OCD is on the strong side, chuck the brass to a drill and use some Mother's metal polish on a microfiber cloth. It'll come out so shiney that you'll probably won't shoot it

I use stainless media in a homemade tumbler. For me I wanted to tumble large amounts of brass and once I was up and running I was really happy with how clean the primer pockets and inside the cases were. It's a higher initial investment but worth it if you get the results you are looking for and if you are careful you'll rarely if ever need to replace the media.

That looks like stuff I have seen come out of a porta-john on one of the live fire ranges here on base, it even has the same "Blue Water" discoloration LOL.

Felt bad for my ammo tech who had to turn it in to the ASP LOL

Dunno what happened to this stuff, I picked it up from steeaelea peaeke about 4 months ago and it sat in the back of the truck and then I took it out and set it near the house and it turns patina on me. I know it was brass because I picked it up. But anyways...

Buy a cement mixer from Harbor Frieght for $159 when on sale. Stop by a feed store and get 50 pounds of walnut shell bedding. Go into Wal-Mart for a pizza tray at $4 plus $1.70 cents for wing nuts.
Put it in your backyard and let it rip for a day or two. You can do two 5 gallon buckets of brass at a time that way.
Or you can clean out the inside of each piece then run it on your Lee de-capper then do 25 pieces at a time in stainless media. Two 5 gallon buckets shouldnt take more than a week if you hurry.

You know what i am gonna do? I am gonna get all reverse ninja flea flicker on it. I am going to drop in some walnut shell media and some nu finish and drop all of these shells in there and see if it can do anything... OR maybe just throw it in with some rice instead.
