I load tons of rifles and revolver rounds for 20 years on a single stage. 2 years ago i stepped up turret and this year finally took the plunge to progressive. I would not change a thing about how I started all this because a single stage although unbelievably slow compared to a progressive taught me to adjust for everything and how to adjust it right. Now that I am comfortable the LNL style is a lot faster and easier for me to work with.

Reloading Advice

There are two (three) ways to do it.Hello all,
I've decided that I want to get into reloading my own stockpile of ammunition. Can someone point me in a good direction of classes, help, to teach me the proper and safe methods of accomplishing this.
Around how much should I expect to incur in costs to get set up? I figured I would start reloading 9mm and move on from there.
Any insight is appreciated.
Thx
1. Buy a reloading manual like Modern Reloading or the Lyman 49th edition and start reading. It reads like a 5th grade book, nothing fancy, and you only need to read a little of the book, yeah they are thick, but most of that is load data and helpful charts/lists. Put together your own fun stuff and proceed to reload.
2. Read the internet and watch videos and good luck with your choices.
3. Find someone here that is willing to help you in person, OR better yet, attend a clinic which will cost you about half a day, and you will be exposed to different presses and calibers and you will get to see things first hand from folks that know what they are talking about. Then you can go read the stickies in this forum and even ask a few folks on what is needed and continue on from then. (this is another internet way, but it is the smart internet way).
People here are very good in what they know. I do not think that I have ever ran across anyone in this forum that is just an idiot. Sure, some irritate me mildly from time to time but I am no angel and since this IS the internet, I think we all run with a few less heat sinks and filters on.
I first came here back around 2009/2010 and asked around for a press reccommendation and after reviewing the facts and opinions, I settled on a Lee Classic Turret (4 hole) and it was probably the best advice that I ever got in life. I say it is the best because it has saved me thousands in ammo bills. The difference between making 44 magnum at 9.70/50rds that shakes the house versus buying 50 semi-moderate American Eagle 240gr at $42 or $49 per 50rds is insane. When you reload, most if not all of your pistol ammo will end up running under $10 a box. And the awesome law that limits your gun powder on hand but not your ammo is just very encouraging to keep reloading. Also, when you get into reloading, where are you going to buy ammo already made that has been powdercoated? Yeah good luck with that...
9mm ammo can be made for very cheap, AND when you get into casting, you will find that you can drop boolits for a .357/.38 that you can then turn around and drop into a 9mm case that has been fired, and then with a special die you can turn THAT into a 180gr pill that you can load into a .40 or 10mm and shoot it... Yeah crazy... Reloading can do some wild and cool things... Make it out to a clinic and you will not be sorry that you did.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...Comment

Buy several loading manuals and read them . That is all that is needed to learn to safely reload. Buy a 550 Dillon and all the dies caliber conversions. The 550 is a great learning machine..Last edited by Sunday; 02-26-2015, 6:59 PM.California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.Comment

But I meant loaded ammunition. I have not seen anyone selling powdercoated ammo in any of the stores. I do not know why and I am sure it is about to hit the market everywhere, yeah, totally sure... I just have not found anyone selling loaded PC ammo.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
