Could you post the exact specs of your device? I'm curious how you can run it up to $2139. This is being sent from a $275 OTD Lenovo, which just had it's first birthday. I'm not a gamer or power user, just surfing and email.

Yeah, I had an MBP take a dump in its first 4 or 5 months while my Toshiba lasted 8 years only needing new RAM. Anecdotal evidence is great.

I'm a SRE for Apple's Internet services. I kickstart hundreds of brand new PC servers a month. For brand name servers, I get 8-12% dead-on-arrival failure rates (i.e. dead drives, bad DIMMs, bad CPUs, bad mobos, etc...). For white box manufacturers, I've had failure rates as high as 50% (****ty firmware that randomly prevents bone stock Linux kernel from initializing the Intel NIC).

I kinda lost faith in PC hardware after seeing such high failure rates, especially in enterprise/webscale hardware.

So Apple does not use Apple hardware or software for their internet services?

You could setup an FTP server on your dell and connect with an FTP client on your mac. It's easier to setup than it sounds and uses hardware you already have. Do Mac's have an Ethernet port? A gigabit network will transfer files quickly.

iCloud Drive or Dropbox it over. I think there is a Windows client for iCloud drive.

Transferring email can be a pain depending on what email system you are using on the PC and what you will be using on the Mac.

If anyone finds themselves needing to transfer data (mail, contacts, and calendars) from Outlook to a Mac, a little app called O2M (http://www.littlemachines.com) is worth every penny of its $12.95 price tag.

Yea, I guess it makes sense once you think about it, I just had not given it any thought and have not kept up with the Apple hardware.
My knee jerk reaction was to be surprised that they did not use their own products, I guess I was expecting them to at least use their own software.

True about the cost of a high end PC laptop vs mac, they are the same. In particular the display drives the cost. For example a Lenovo with a similar screen like the retina will be same in $$.

Network computers, drop box, usb, whatever there are several easy methods, I was forced to switch from PC to MAC in 2008. Best thing i ever did. No issues with my IMAC or mac book / macbook pro. Ill never go back.

I just bought my first MacBookPro, used, for about $800 from a friend. First, I did a total back up of my PC with a huge flash drive (60g?). Then, I put all my files (except itunes) onto another large flash drive and moved everything over.

As others have said, a lot of programs won't jive with the mac if they were installed for PC. I moved my itunes including all my playlists by looking up youtube vids. In fact, there are a ton of youtube vids that will tell you lots of stuff about you new mac. Watch this:
