Just purchased a refurbed 15.4 Mac through Apple.

Besides Iphone/Ipad, I have little experience with Mac.

What's the simplest way to transfer from my Dell to the Mac?

I'm planning to buy Applecare through e-bay. I've read hundreds of testimonies online that say that's they way to go since its so much cheaper.

Transfer what? Music, Text douments? Stuff thats on a cloud? Either way a external hard drive that you can just dump everything onto from your dell and plug into your mac and just open up the drive through the finder window on your mac and drag and drop to the specific folders or desktop.

Although its easy to access and easy to save to, it's not good practice to just save everything onto your desktop, because it will slow it down significantly once you get a good amount of stuff on there.

You can find external hard drives everywhere from staples to Best Buy and all sorts of online retailers. I preferably like www.NewEgg.com They have great prices, shipping and customer service.

A dislike for Apple doesn't imply someone is poor.

I'm going to assume since I don't have any other info that you're not very computer savvy. So I'll explain that most of your programs are not going to transfer, at all. You'll have to do fresh installations of everything from the setup files that you either downloaded or bought.

Most of what you need to transfer will probably be in folders like documents, desktop, and downloads. Just throw them on a USB drive.

Do you need anything from your old machine that isn't that straightforward to move?

Get an external USB drive, 1TB or so. Put all your stuff on it from the PC, then copy it to the MAC. Then you can use the drive as the TimeMachine backup drove for your Mac. You can only transfer files, applications won't as has been said. If you have an extensive iTunes library, there is a way to move the config files so your phone doesn't need to re-sync...if that's an issue. I'm an IT work on PC's, play with Mac's.

Most of your files on your PC are stored in your User folder. The path should look somewhat similar to this:

Computer --> Local Disk (C --> Users --> User Name

You pretty much just need to throw everything from that user folder onto an external hard drive, then plug it into the Mac and copy the files to your Mac hard drive.

Ahhh the Mac haters. You may have to format an external to your Mac before being able to use it, which deletes everything on it. So if you buy a new one do that before you put everything on it.

Yeah, I had an MBP take a dump in its first 4 or 5 months while my Toshiba lasted 8 years only needing new RAM. Anecdotal evidence is great.
