office 2013/2010/2007 users have issues printing in a range?

So I discovered this the other day. A user had a a DOCX that someone sent to her.

IT was 132 pages long and she only wanted pages 84-117.

Word would not print it. but she could print the entire docx file.

She could go to those pages and print them individually.

So I looked and looked and looked and looked.

Turns out that WORD had made SECTION BREAKS in the document. Kinda like Photoshop layers.

When that happens, printing across various sections can be very tricky and even telling windows what page and sections to print was taking too long and did not work.

SO, you FIND and replace all ^e with ^m and that removes the breaks and printing can now be done normally...

    Go figure.

hope there was a good reason to have section breaks and that the formatting was really different enough in those section break content from the rest of the doc.

i wonder if converting it to a pdf file (like print to pdf) and then choosing the pages to print from pdf would've worked rather than removing all the section breaks. Granted, you found a shortcut to remove them all but it seemed doing that resulted in no formatting issues. thus, does that mean section break was incorrectly used and page breaks should've been used instead?

I hear you but I looked up the section breaks and it really is just a change of formatting that makes things easier.

BUT, if folks have issues and can not print, then remove section breaks and print the range and do not save the document. If it comes out crappy, then it will not work, but the two users that I have found now with this issue had excellent results. But it was really because there was a different author who had edited the page. :\
