Side loading took 15 min the process took 20 total. I am by no means a tech wizard I just followed the youtube vid I posted. You do not have to side load it every time you use it just once, to me it was worth it for the xbmc alone.

I have a HTPC and a smart tv I needed something for the bedroom so the wife could watch her movies and tv shows. I am trying to slowly cut the cable cord and she is fighting me tooth and nail haha! Now that she can watch most of her crap she is seeing the light. Baby steps baby steps lol.

There was a hack for roku but I think they have since patched it.

I really enjoy the Roku 3, it's even better than the previous versions. It's worth the $.

I have one. With the exception of crashing a couple of times in the past few months, it's been great so far, and like others here, I use it with Plex as well.

There's a fair amount of free content available...Crackle, Snag, Shoutcast, Revision3, TEDTalks, MIT Courseware, several channels for independent films and documentaries...you just have to explore.

Here's a review and comparison from The Wire Cutter:

The Google TV Streamer (4K)’s customizable interface, advanced search functionality, and ease of use set it squarely ahead of the competition.

Ive got multiple Rokus from various generations including the 3 and they have all been nothing but awesome! IMO for the price you cant get anything better! And that coming from someone who has Apple TVs, Smart TVs, Blu-Ray players with apps, xBoxs, Playstations, Wiis, etc. Ive got it all and tried it all!

I have a roku 3 with netflix and amazon.

I never play around with the free channels. Disappointed with netflix....

                    Mine has been solid.

Locked up 1 single time in over 8 months. Pull the power to reboot it, and its fine.

I have a Roku 2 in the house and a Roku LT in the workshop. Can't imagine being without it.

I've got the Roku 3. I'm not really impressed with the programming that's available. I bought it after canceling my satellite in an effort to save $$. I wanted access to the History Ch and A&E. It turns out though that most current programming for those channels is not accessible unless you have sign in info from a cable or satellite provider.

The streaming apps like netflix, youtube and hulu work fine though.

have a roku 2, roku 3 and neoTv max as well as a smart tv. And I mostly use hulu/netflix/amazon prime or the neoTV DLNA to stream from my NAS
