It's not cool, rather dangerous. What's happened to all cards if you lost coin ? How safe it is to guard all the cards info? Convienient may be but not safe

I just heard of it but I understand your concerns. I found some "FAQ's" on security issues:


Q. What if I lose my Coin or someone steals it?
A. In the event that your Coin loses contact with your phone for a period of time that you configure in the Coin mobile app, it will automatically deactivate itself.


Q. How does the 'auto-lock' feature work?
A. The purpose of the auto-lock feature is to allow a Coin to remain swipeable once you have selected a card, but to prevent someone else from either accidentally or intentionally changing the card that is selected. If enabled, as soon as your Coin leaves your phone’s side, the feature will automatically trigger. Once your Coin and your phone are nearby one and other again, the button on the device will be re-enabled so that you can select a card.

I bought in on a Coin several months back. As security minded as I am, especially with my financials, I don't have concerns about this. Considering I only carry two credit cards (no ATM/debit) because I run a slim card holder, the coin will be nice to have so I can add a couple of my other cards to my wallet, so to speak.

It's an interesting idea, I preordered one a while ago.

As far as security concerns about "losing all your cards" well, that'd happen if you lost your wallet anyway. At least this way only one would be usable to anyone else, instead of all of them. And you can deactivate the cards loaded on it from your phone instead of having to look up the CS number for your bank that is printed on the back of the card that was stolen.

Unsure if they have some sort of battery indicator in the software, would be surprised if they didn't. If you're going on a trip and worried, then bring the original cards.

I'm sure most people are going to carry one card + the coin. At least, I am.

Kind of defeats the purpose of having only to carry one card. Why bring the coin card if you have to bring the other cards anyway?

i doubt they will be able to deliver anytime soon. its been over a half a year and they still aren't even close to having a beta.

what if the waiter swipes all the cards on your coin to a reader when he is near you then? what happens then?

seemed cool for about 2 minutes when I first saw it some time ago.

I have read all the FAQ's and info I could find and here are my main problems with it:

1) When battery dies you have to buy a new one...this means your spending $99 a year for the convenience...that's too much in my book

2) Its not the original card and I wonder how many places would not accept it because of this.

3) Using some one else's card is now even easier..your required to take a picture of the card but if some one has it for a few minutes I don't see how that's going to stop any one.

I won't be getting one. How many cards do you need at once? ATM/Debit and a backup CC. Not worth 99 bucks IMO.

"Bring" =\= "carry on your person all the time". Bring the vital ones and leave them in your hotel or something. The purpose is to not have a wallet full of cards when you're out, but still have access to whichever ones you wish to use.
