Yep, I use iExplorer, works well. Only issue then is that IOS only plays a limited amount of video formats, even MP4, it is very finicky regarding video. When it plays, it plays it well, but often times I would have to re-encode it which is a pain, or just play it on the Samsung which is far more lenient.

To the OP, check out iExplorer to see if it works better for you.

Seriously, why do people love iAnything so much? You do not have any rights at all, except the right to use the device and all media as long as they approve. Guess what - those songs and movies you "own" are only available until Apple decides you don't have the rights to them anymore and blocks you from using them. Read the fine print.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

Download WifiDroid and you dont even need the cord, super convenient if I am at work and need to grab a file or something off my phone. No more emails just to transfer something.

That being said, I still use Itunes to organize and play music on my computer. I have been using it for so long that I am used to it and don't feel like figuring out something new. I don't own any iDevices any longer so I have no need for transferring with it.

At home all of our music and movies are stored on iTunes and I've never bad a problem. I have over a terabyte of music alone saved in lossless format. Works fine.

Maybe if you guys can give me a specific problem I can help with a solution.
But as far as the OP transferring music from an iPod to an iTunes library, I've never tried that. I do however transfer music from my iTunes to devices all the time without issue.
            1) ive been using it since it came out so "longer" would not apply.
            2) i supported all itunes versions en masse through large retail stores for 4 years in a retail environment (several hundred new and veteran users). stating you have never had a problem in 13 years is again, bullsh_t.
            3) your music and movies did not "instantly appear in the device", apple uses cloud storage which is where your data is held. an application (itunes) streams it from the cloud unless downloaded to the device for offline play.
            4) you just stated that you have 12k songs, that is a long way to 1 terabyte of data. i have over 200k songs in lossless format and it uses under a TB of storage space.
            5) not sure why you would be bringing up contacts as if that is a selling point for itunes.
            6) someone who doesnt know how to upload music from an ipod to itunes should not be belittling another person nor giving technical advice.

op, the steps are pretty simple and im sorry i didnt state them before but here goes:

            1) connect the ipod to your machine
            2) itunes will pop up and ask if you want to sync...SAY NO! if you sync you will lose the data on your ipod.
            3) navigate using windows explorer (i assume you dont have a mac) to the installed ipod which should be represented in explorer by a drive letter.
            4) make sure windows explorer is set to show hidden files and folders.
            5) open the device and then the folder marked ipod_control or itunes_control
            6) copy the music folder out of the ipod_control/itunes_control folder and paste onto your desktop.
            7) copy the music from the music folder on your desktop into your music folder that itunes polls from.
            8) sync itunes
            9) uninstall itunes
            10) open an amazon account and upload your music to the web and stream through your phone in the future. ipods are as outdated as iphones.

if you cannot get your ipod to be recognized by windows you will have to do it the apple way. which is done through creating a new windows account, authorizing the device, syncing the ipod with itunes and then backing up, restoring that data to the original windows profile with itunes, etc, etc. you can find help for that on the internet.

here are a couple vids that might help:

that helps you pull the music from your newer gen itouch and copy it to your machine for storage.

iTunes used to be decent. At some point I quit updating it and just used the version that was working for me, which was maybe 6 years old. Then recently the wife was having Ipad problems, and in the course of debugging them I was forced to update to the latest Itunes. This new iTunes is really dumbed down from what it used to be. It's awful. Anyone know if it's possible to find old versions anywhere?
