Does anyone else hate iTunes as much as I do?

Attempting to transfer music from an ipod to a new itunes is literally more difficult than pulling teeth

Anyone have a good way to do it?

Best method: Replace it with an Android.

I don't even have iTunes installed.

That is the easiest method to transfer music without iTunes.
Android drives just become a drive letter in Win, or possibly just mountable in Linux.

The new version of itunes is so great that apple's own instructions on how to transfer from an ipod to itunes don't work.

      Hooray apple products!

iTunes is a nightmare program. It always has been. This latest upgrade screwed up the music on one of my iPads. I manage the music manually that way the chances of a problem are only at about 40% each time I use it. I have a program I got from giveaway of the day called iExplorer that takes music off Apple devices. It works pretty good.

As for the Android fanboys, I get real tired of them. Just like I get tired of the Apple fanboys. I bought an android tablet when they first came out and ended up giving it away. My daughter just got a galaxy tab 3 with jellybean. Now that is a tablet I can live with.

I think I will go with Android for my next phone and tablet.

I've had to use it once or twice. Works as advertised. I feel your pain, bro.

I have owned almost every iPod since they came out. Currently I own 2 iPads and iPad mini. And two 4th gen iPod touches and one 5th gen. Plus an iPhone and an iMac.
I've never had a problem with iTunes. I use it to buy all my music and movies. I'm completely off DVD's and blu rays. Never again. All my music and movies are digital now.
I probably spend $100 a month average on iTunes. If I want a new song I buy t on my phone. It appears on my iMac, my three apple TV's and all of my touches and iPads. Nothing could be more convenient.
I can't imagine a better way to buy and store media than iTunes.
Currently my library has over 12k songs, dozens of TV shows and dozens of movies.

Itunes is awful. I sold my old iPhone and got an Android a couple years ago and have been happy ever since.

Proprietary software, REQUIRED to transfer data to proprietary hardware, with a proprietary interface, not to mention the 100% success rate of malware injection on iOS devices by the NSA doesn't sound like Liberty to me...

I hate iTunes. I spent $4000 building a gaming box last summer and it still takes effing forever to start up iTunes, and transfers to my iPad are slow and sometimes crash. That's with an 8-core i7 chip and 64 gigs of ram, with nothing else running. HATE IT. Mostly because Apple has to be douchey and require you to use their software for all of the transfers. Why can't they just show up as removable drives so I can drag and drop content like LITERALLY EVERY OTHER DEVICE IN THE WORLD.

I really doubt you hate iTunes more than me. It has to be the least user friendly program ever developed by mankind.

Maybe the apple fanboy can enlighten us on how not to lose all yoru contacts and music almost each time you plug in for an upgrade.....

I've been using iTunes since I got my first iPod in 2002. The only problems I had were when I switched between using iTunes and open-source iTunes-like music managing applications. Sometimes those OS apps would muck up the internal iPod database and I would have to retransfer my music.

                      Other than that, no issues.

I agree that iTunes has turned into bloatware, though.

While I'm typing on an Air128, and we have 5 other iPads in the house, I absolute despise iTunes and IOS. Not saying Android is perfect-it isn't, but my Samsung tablet and phones are my favorites. So easy to transfer media.

If anyone things iTunes sucks as music transfer, try transferring video, that will make you want to slap the Pope.

All I do is drag and drop a compatible mp4 onto the phone via iTunes. Mostly stuff I ripped myself (e.g. DVD to mp4).

op, i use amazon now for all of my devices, it is cross platform which is helpful. i worked in retail support (bestbuy and then compusa tech support) when apple ipods first came to market and were growing in popularity so i have a lot of experience with itunes from the first generation of ipod to the latest gen running on my mavericks macbook pro. EVERYONE has problems with itunes, you are not in the minority and definitely not a dummy for being unable to upload your music to their library. they want you to buy all your music from itunes so they make it purposefully difficult to import music.

i lost over a terabyte of music (roughly 200k songs) to itunes corrupting my data source by attempting to reformat various mp3s to m4a format...foolish me hadnt backed up to DVDR as it would have taken at least 20.

i would recommend upgrading the standard amazon account to a higher storage total and then uploading your mp3s to the web. that way you save on local storage on your device and can pick and choose what you want to listen to from the cloud player on any device whether you own it or its your friends or girlfriends device.

                            bullsh_t.

itunes has had so many problems and fixes that it is absolutely impossible no matter how much of a power user aka mac genius you may be.

Maybe I've been using iTunes longer and more often but if I had problems with it I'd tell you. For me it has always worked. Last week I bought a new iPod touch. When I turned it on I entered my apply ID. Instantly all my music and movies and contacts appeared in the new device. I have over 300 contacts. All are stored on the cloud for free.

At home all of our music and movies are stored on iTunes and I've never bad a problem. I have over a terabyte of music alone saved in lossless format. Works fine.

Maybe if you guys can give me a specific problem I can help with a solution.
But as far as the OP transferring music from an iPod to an iTunes library, I've never tried that. I do however transfer music from my iTunes to devices all the time without issue.
