    I bought a Roomba a week ago...

And I'm pretty impressed with how it works. I've enjoyed sitting back and watching it work a few times now and there is obviously a lot of thought that went into the artificial intelligence. The thing is pretty smart.

The real kicker for me is that it goes under the couches. Under the couches was always a dust haven and moving the couches out to vacuum was a real hassle. Plus under the bed is another place that is hard to get. The roomba makes it look easy.

It is very well built and heavy. At least 15lbs. And it makes threshold transitions easy. Same thing from hardwood to carpet. Does it easily.

Also it fits under the bottom of the kitchen cabinets in the kitchen. It goes along every inch of space and gets everything.

So far it has worked great on our tile floors as well. But I'm so impressed with it so far I think I'm going to buy the mopping version specifically for tile.

Wanted to share in case anyone was looking for as easy (granted not cheap) way to keep your floors dust free.

I have two roombas, one I am fixing, but they are "cute" little vaccums and they do seem to work GREAT on low carpet or tile/hardwood floors. The amount of engineering that goes into them is awesome. I like how they have little arms that reach out on the sides and and like street sweepers (not the shotty!) that pull in dust and things in towards the center so that the main brush can pick it up. There are also ones that cost more that you can put on the floor and hit SPOT and it will spot clean that section, and they have room blockers that will put out a beam of light that tells the roomba to stay away from that section or door. They can be had on Fleabay for around $200 or less...

Be nice to your Roomba or it will commit suicide......

Was this the world’s first robot suicide? A cleaning gadget could have become the first device to kill itself after it “climbed” onto a kitchen hotplate and burned to death. The iRobot Roomba 760 reportedly rebelled…

I have a couple of them and spilt the house up. I have these guys running all over the house. They work pretty good. Check out there web page.

Roomba's OK, beats vacuuming manually. But check out the Neato:

Neato maps out the room using lasers. It knows where it has been and where it hasn't. It vacuums the room in a back and forth pattern and won't cover the same ground twice.

I got the $500 version. So it has all the bells and whistles. Two hepa filters and even a remote control. The kids love steering it around like an RC car. And it's vacuuming the whole time! The SPOT feature is pretty cool if something is spilled. The mopping one is only $350 which is why I'm considering it as well.

I had a neighbor that had two; one down stairs and one up stairs. He was a college student living in a 6,000 sq. ft. house his parents bought as an investment. He lived in the Guest House. Ever time I went into the house I was mesmerized by the "crop circle" type patterns in the carpet.

I always wanted to get one but we have so much stuff picked up due to the kids and dogs. Also, I'm sure the vacuuming job wouldn't live up to my wife's expectations.
