Anyone run Skyrim with Windows XP OS?

Damn. I am about ready to wipe out my OS and migrate to Windows 7 x64 ultra premium pro corp whatever.

I have XP and I loaded Skyrim up and all DLC again, so it was great, but I wanted to do the MOD thing cause I see sooooooo many mods out there. But all I have it seems are issues with one thing or another and I am wondering if it is an XP issue. I always had issues with Skyrim. I at ONE time had my windows XP set to boot up with a 3GB ram limit, then I had Skyrim Vanilla loaded and it ran with a CTD every now and then. I had to NOT use the high res texture pack because it put purple things in the game, then when I got dragonborn and hearthfire it was so damn buggy that I had CTD about every 5-25 minutes. Forums seemed to suck with a bunch of asshats telling everyone else that they needed things that made no sense to me at the time.

AND, I do NOT want to migrate to windows 7 unless I have to because if I do, I will have to reinstall Forged Alliance and Supreme Commander again AND then there is this damn pita called STEAM that would make me have to d/l like 37+ GB of games in order to play a few of them... I do not care for that.

So has anyone played skyrim on xp, then moved to 7 and found it any less buggier?

I am thinking that the only real advantage is that I can allow it to use more RAM then 4GB that it apparently made reference calls to (which was why I set the 3GB limit)...

I just want to run around with some of the cool new mods and player abodes and stuff and enjoy my limited free time at home...

Sounds like you computer is under-powered for running games, I doubt an OS change will fix that.

Sounds like you probably have a hardware/driver issue. I've been running skyrim with hearthfire, dawnguard and soltsheim dlc on xp with no issues. The only issue I had was with the high-res dlc where I had some crashes, so I disabled it....again probably a hardware/driver issue I was too lazy to look into.

        My system is not underpowdered.

I have an Evga Nvidia 570 GTX
AMD Phenom II quad core 955 black edition
4GB of RAM (forgot the speed)
SATA drives and it has handled everything so far with no issues

kps300k: I understand what you are saying. Last night I had an issue where now, I am running around, and the game FREEZES- but ONLY the graphics. THen if I hit CTL-ALT-DEL and go to task manager and then choose skyrim and SWITCH to (via button on task manager) it goes back in the game, but I have an annoying cursor on the screen, BUT I found that if I hit ESC before I switch to task manager, then switch back, I enter the game with the game menu up, and when I hit save or exit, no cursor.

Then I am good to play for another 5-10 minutes. I repeated this action last night for about 7 times until the game suddenly turned yellow and gave me a BSOD with NV_disp.dll

AND yes, I know that SCREAMS drivers. That is another problem that I have with this system. I can NOT update my drivers. I ripped out the drivers and did the nvidia clean install and EVERYTHING for this new card and it installed fine but upon bootup I got an error of NVCPL not being able to run. THen last night I thought that maybe I needed newer drivers after my first bsod so I went and grabbed v331 from the nvidia site and ran it, but all failed to load at the end, but when I restarted I had the NVCPL error gone. So I played until I ran into the bsod that I put above.

I just wish there was a way to troubleshoot this game SPECIFICALLY. Now my nexus mod manager does not work and I am afraid to uninstall it and reinstall it and lose track of the mods that are installed. Well, I just hate to have to reinstall EVERYTHING all over again and then start from scratch in troubleshooting it... Damn game is worse then the carb on the Jeep. It is the ONLY game that I have that I will spend this amount of time on. >

BTW, I do not have a lot of mods, Maybe around 20-30 if that, but most are the popular ones like the climates of tamriel, bandoliers, 101 new alchemy ingredients, sky ui, hair (got taken out), SKSE, TS5V or whatever, HOTH, and the Underground bathhouse + paradise valley (cause it just looked cool!) But all of the skins that I had changed screwed something up so all of the NPCs looked like tarbabies and black skele-faces and other folks had bright yellow faces so anyways...

Damn that game needs a lot of tweaking...

So I fought tooth and nail to get this damn card to load drivers up and I got nothing but crap and I dunno HOW I even got 327 drivers installed... SO I loaded the CD that came with this card adn there were no issues at all. NONE.

Which now makes me think that the FURTHER away from the card birthday you get, the harder it is to load drivers for it. The drivers installed now came WITH the card and the game still crashes now with BSOD and NV_disp.dll errors from time to time. But oddly enough only when I am running or something, if I walk everywhere then it is fine but an occasional CTD. And now I can not use the alchemy table without CTD...

        :\

I think I got this damn thing nearly fixed.

I had to clean several mods and toss a few due to being buggy, but finally loaded up with NO high res textures and even ran the 4GB patch and it is NOT rock solid, but the errors have decreased by about 90% now. I played it for about 1.5 hours today with no issues. No random running with CTD for no reason. The only issues I have with CTD involved stepping up to the alchemy table with the Spotted Lacerous butterfly wing (I just drop them after I see I have them) and I have fixed the CTD there. Now the only issue I have is SOMETIMES it hangs when loading a new area or whatever. So I save before that happens, I am still working on it, but anyways, it seems to be coming around better and I got hot nekid chix and a huge amount of alchemy things to play around with... Oh yeah, and I got a cool bath house WHICH I found that I can now invite chix to my bath house so SWEET! I only wish that they would have left those damn tatoos off the chix... ****ing pervs and their WIP fantasies...
