    Looking for DOCSIS Modem Recommendation

Finally ditching ATT DSL and getting Comcast. Any recommendations for a DOCSIS modem (2.0 or 3.0?)? Arris? Cisco? Motorola? Zoom?

One more thing - it is coax input, right? And, will it have an ethernet output that I can plug right into my wireless router, e/net hub?

Yes, coax in and ethernet out. Choose from here:

Select the 3.0 box (why get a 2.0 device?). I highly suggest getting one that supports IPv6. The cert-level (stars) is not important (notice how it is all ether 1 or 3 stars? They either like and recommend, or don't like but it passed all their tests).

I recommend one with a gigabit port, as likely in the coming years you'll have 100+mbit speeds, and if you only have a 100mbit port you'll be limited there. (You can already get 120mbit service today, but it's a bit pricey, IMHO).

I personally have been very happy with my Motorola. BestBuy, Amazon, where ever you like to purchase. Don't rent ($7/mo., crazy unless you know you won't have a need for it in less than a year).

TWC uses Arris Docsis 3.0 modem/router/wifi/phone. Pretty solid piece of equipment with a ton of options in the user control. Might be pricey though

I have been using Motorola Surfboard modems since early 2000. Never had any issues with any of them.

You cannot go wrong with the Motorola SB6121.

I have a buddy who is a Comcast field tech and he says to stay away from the Arris devices. He is constantly having to replace them.

That's the modem I'm currently using. I got it as a free upgrade from my SB5100 from Charter. Had it for almost a year now and have never had to reboot the modem.

I got this one off newegg last cyber monday:

It's been pretty solid, no complaints. I'm on TWC.

DOCSIS 3.0 with at least support for 8 downstreams. You need this for eventual faster speeds. Don't get 4 downstreams.

The one listed above one Newegg is only four downstreams.

No Arris is fine. Stay away from the 6121. Motorola which makes the Surfboard brand was bought by Arris. The Surfboard is not being developed anymore. By a modem capable with at least 8 downstreams or you will have to upgrade again in a year or so.

Thanks guys. Wound up with a ZOOM 5341J off of amazon for reasonable price. It has 8 downstram channels. Interestingly, I don't see a huge difference in speed going from 3 Mbps DSP and 50 Mbps comcast.
