I want to get a midsized android tablet for a gift for someone. I'm thinking about a few hundred dollars or so, but I don't really know what's out there right now that holds good value and specs. Thanks calguns, as always, your help is appreciated!

not sure if they'll hold value. these normally don't given technology always updates. most here recommend kindle. costco has some options/deals for 7" and 8". if you want larger, then it'll be more than a 'few' hundred.
kindle would be good if your friend reads a lot and doesn't mind an electronic device vs. book. -

I forgot about nexus. I tried to get a 8gb one when google had their firesalre on it. Im using a galaxy tab 8" right now. It is heads above my touchpad (hp) that put android on. I just put jellybean on it too. But the 8" samsung is easier to carry especially for my little one. Screen display is awesome.
u can get the 7" one too. Just buy sd card to store files and media so u dont bog down the os and leave internal memory to apps and osComment

Nexus 7 is the bomb. The only thing keeping it from being insanely amazing is the lack of SD card. I only have the first gen with the lesser screen, the newer ones have an even better display.Comment

I just got a Google Nexus 7 32GB used and in LN condition from Fleabay for $116 after shipping. It will be a gift for my g/f.
Those are AWESOME tablets.
I picked up a Google Nexus 7 16GB last year for $58 that was bricked. I unbricked it with the toolkit and I have used it for all kinds of things.
The google Nexus 7 is in my opinion one of the best you can get.
I put a huge list of ebooks that I can read at work or use as reference, I also got a large collection of reloading books so if I am at a store and they have powders, I can look them up in my books and decide if I want any or not. I have WIFI tools to tell me how hot a hot spot is or how crowded a channel is. I have all knds of angry birds, I have navigation, word smithing books, and a huge ebook collection on mine as well as Sudoku, word search, and other cool stuff. Even picked up a BT OBDII reader for $32.00 on Fleabay to plug into my car and read it in the tablet in a program called Torque, it will give me access to all kinds of settings and readings and I can wipe the computer out and look up TCs. It is great.Last edited by stilly; 12-25-2013, 12:44 AM.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...

Thanks guys! I got her the nexus 7 two days ago heh heh.. Staples had them for 30 dollars off. Hopefully she loves it..
Also, staples has this coupon active for a few more days til the 28th, where they will take 20% off of their squaretrade protection plan. So for the nexus it came out to 56 dollars for a protection plan through staples for two years. During which, they said that even if I get a big scratch on the glass or some other minor or major issue, they will GIVE me 200 dollars credit for another nexus as long as it is within two years of the purchase date and initiation of the protection plan. And here's the cool thing, they will NOT require you to return your old original nexus.. Crazy cool deal they are offering. Check it out if you're in the market for a tablet - staples is it. And they were super chill on the 23rd...
Happy festivus calgun homes! Thanks for the golden info

Avoid cheap USB car chargers as they can damage the USB port. I lost the attached storage function on mine.Comment
