My S4 lives in an Otterbox defender, the Galaxy before it in a commuter. I work on cars, have tile flooring at home, kids, try to enjoy the outdoors. My phones live a rough life, I doubt they would survive without a case.

Most of my friends had iPhones and maybe half have nice cases over busted screens. It amazes me how so many purportedly responsible adults can't take care of their stuff.

After having too many messed up phones, I learned how to take care of my belongings better and I thoroughly enjoy not having a case on my iPhone.
A scratch or two on the screen doesn't bug me. I know not to set my phone in my pocket when I have keys, change, or empty beer bottle caps in that same pocket.
I know I have a nice, expensive piece of technology in my hands and my care 24/7 and I treat it properly.

I use a screen protector and a d3O armor case. First was exposed to d3O in Knox motorcycle armor.

My iPhone 5 is in a 2 layer case. Outer is plastic/brushed aluminum and inner is rubber. I also have a screen protector. I'm way too rough on phones to not have a case, even though I'd rather not.

I've broken screens, put baseball cleats through the back, smashed corners and taken phones swimming (figuratively). I'll take all the protection I can get.

              This.

I had my iPhone 4 for over 3 years, and it lived in an Otterbox Defender with front & back screen protectors from Zagg. I traded it in at Gamestop the other day, and when I took it to the store that was the first time since summer of 2010 that the phone had been bare. I got enough extra in trade-in credit to pay for the case and screen protectors MORE than twice over, compared to the average condition of iPhone 4 trade-ins. The guy actually asked if I had ever even used the phone before.

My 5S has the same setup - Defender + Zagg. Well worth the money.

I think of my phones as tools and not jewelry, though some phones are very sleek and sexy. I tend to beat on my devices without mercy, so I like having bumper-style cases. Plus, ever since the HTC EVO came out with a kickstand, I've been a big fan of using bumper-style cases that add a kickstand, on all my phones since then.

I once accidentally ran over a phone with a fullsize chevy truck while camping, and although it was pretty scratched up, it still worked fine.

I'm currently using a Sedio kickstand case on my Note II, and think it's great.

I've been using an otter box defender, my wife has an otter box commuter. The phone inside mine looks like the day I bought it though the case has been to hell and back.

Now all I need is my new Note3.

I've always just went with a cheap soft black silicon case for my galaxies (on s4 now), which then fit into a wilderness tactical smart phone case. silicon case allows me to handle phone easier with one hand; wilderness case rides on belt and I will never consider another case for belt carry. period...

My Galaxy S4 is my first smart phone so I'm pampering the thing. I didn't get the crazy hundred dollar case, but I did carefully think out my decision while shopping on Amazon. Went with the IBlason for about $15. Has a 2-piece rubber/hard plastic cover for the body, and a separate belt clip unit that for me, protects the screen. I'm happy with my purchase despite the added bulk. Perhaps after a year or two, I won't baby my phone so much.

I have an Iphone with an otterbox defender case (realtree of course). Have dropped it on concrete more than once and had no problems.

Otterbox has kept my iPhone 4S in great shape for two years so far.
