AVG Secure Search 2013

I'm getting popups on my computer telling me that I should download AVG Secure Search 2013. Can anybody advise if this a legit thing or problematic?

I don't care for it and it is intrusive. I deleted it off a customer's laptop this morning because it wouldn't stop bothering her. Also, some popupbads aren't legit and serve all kinds of bloatware and malware. You're better off without it.

I'd download Avast antivirus and run a boot time scan. That should help you easily eliminate any spyware, malware or bloatware on your pc.

AVG & Avast IMO really are trying to get people to buy their products with the ads on it.

AVG use to be good till they started trying like the big boys. Avast's design just feels too tacky with modern looks I still think it installs spyware. Uninstalling Avast isn't clean either.

Also I'd suggest running CCleaner after that; it removes junk files.

Don't EVER download a product because you "saw a popup ad for it." Almost always a bad idea.

Use MS security essentials, firefox with ad blockers, and browse on a restricted user account, not your computer's admin account. Put passwords on both, just so nothing auto-installs.

Has security Essentials ever saved YOUR bacon?

I don't think it has ever found anything on anyone I know's computer, maybe because they had an AV and that AV found it 1st.

I know what you mean. There are prolly a good:bad ratio of 1:38 out there that can be found through popups.

So then if you have a 1 in 38 chance of having something good, well, unless it is a lottery win, I do not care to give it a try either.

So for me, ALL popups are bad unless I generated them...

MaximumPC just selected Avast over MSE for their "best free A\V". I might give it a try on a second PC.

I have AVG running on a test machine at work at it's been fine. No pop-up ads since installing.

I stopped using AVG when they started hijacking the default browser search, in all browsers...
