Tv gurus get in here I need help!

Ok so I am planing on upgrading my Tv in my tv room from a 40" to a 55" or bigger Is anyone a tv guru?

I have a samsung A650 somthing and it's starting to break I liked the tv but it only lasted 5-6 years. The room does get a lot of sun during the day and I have about 15' to the couch from the wall I plan on mounting the tv to.

My house is networked so I do have cat5 at the location and two RG6 drops. I am going to run a ded 20a receptacle to the wall and fish all the other cables hdmi .ect to the location behind the tv

So what tv's should I avoid?

Do I need bigger than a 55"?

are some wall brackets better than others?

I have a dedicated home theater PC so smart tv is not a big deal.

is the 3D worth it?

I have around 1000-1500 would like to keep it around 1000 lol

There are only a handful of companies that actually make the panels in consumer TVs, so pick a brand you like with the features and warranty you want.

I personally like Sharp, Samsung, LG in no particular order.

Some brackets are better than others, Chief and Peerless are the top dogs.

3D is not worth it, along with a load of other marketing hype BS like 240+hz panels, natural motion, any filtering/processing garbage.

You can easily find a great 55+ display in your price range. Get shopping!

We can't recommend a size without knowing how big the room is. A 60" screen in a 4x4 room isn't a good plan, is it?

While Chief and Peerless are big dogs in mounting brackets, they're all basically metal sheet boxes. Get one off amazon for $40, just make sure you mount it securely and you'll be fine.

As for 3d, the tech sucks and nobody wants to watch tv at home with glasses on. That said, if it's in your budget a comparable 3d tv will be a better quality panel than a similarly sized non-3d, since it has to have better refresh and brightness than the non-3d version.

Skip plasma, it's not the best tech. Ideally get an LCD with laser backlight.

How big a TV I have a 60 in the bedroom. Go big.

LED, LCD, Plasma I like LED, but Plasma does have a more natural looking/softer pic to me. LED/LCD is like a photograph, where Plasma is like a good painting.

LED.

Panels will only come into play if you are looking at off-brands like Vizio or Magnavox. Gotta do your homework for each one.

LG and Vizio could be the exact same panel but LG is "A" quality run and Vizio is "B" stock.

Above is just an example, I have no idea who actually supplies Vizio.

Vizio panels aren't anyone's "b stock." They're just as good as any other similarly priced panel. They're also headquartered in CA and run lean compared to a lot of the big guys- that's why they integrate a lot of new tech early on. I had a wifi enabled TV from them before many of the other manufacturers really started doing it.

L 16'3" w 16'5" the tv would be mounted about 16' from the couch.

I myself prefer Sony because the Bravia line every thing communicates. When I load a Blueray into the plater the tv automatically changes to HDMI input 4 and the stereo sets up for movie sound. But my main beef is the few extra bucks in a tv equals better controls and ease of setup and I've had better overall picture with Sony/Samsung/and Panasonic vs. RCA and Vizio YMMV

Depends. If you are going to sit 15 feet away from a tv 55 is fine. I sit 8 feet from my tv and a 46 is huge. YMMV

For wall mount I highly recommend one that tilts up and down with a locking bracket. That way you can plug and unplug cables while the tv is mounted. Fixed brackets are a PITA.

is the 3D worth it?

I can't stand 3D that is a personal preference IMO.

One of my last jobs I had to cut in power for a wall mounted tv the mount had an arm that allowed it to swing away from the wall. That made the job 10 times easier. So a mount with an arm or that tilts is what I will purchase.
