Computer had a fatal crash and now...

I bought a new one. After I had the geek squad retrieve the info and pics off the old HD they wanted the computer. I said now and I planned to cannibalize it and sell the RAM. Well it ain't worth much.

So I have for you :

    (2) 2GB RAM Memory Cards for HP

    AMD Turion II Processor

    WLAN Card

    HP DVD Rewriter

You can have them free if you need them. Just pay for postage from my addy of 92373.

    PM me.

Well that is nice of you, but why not just rebuild it into a linux box? That OS is SO much fun to install and play with lately...

Let the magic smoke out of my tower Saturday night.

New black box on my desk by 0930 Sunday morning.

Fix it by replacing what is wrong with it, then put a new operating system on it from distrowatch. You know, a FREE alternative to winblows?

Learn something or just have it around so that guests can use it or you can put it outside in the garage or in another room and eventually make your networking empire, one zombie box at a time...

I have been digging Pear Linux OS. It appears that is a 64 bit processor, the latest OS7 is only 64 bit, and with all that RAM that would SCREAM on Pear.

Just burn the ISO to a DVD, boot to it and follow instructions while "replacing" the OS on the drive.

It looks like one of them simpleton machines made Apple (only Pear in this case), only ACTUALLY more open . I am thinking of dropping Win 7 at work if I can find some utilities.

It is Ubuntu with a modified interface, and REAL simple, so simple in fact that I put it on a notebook I am going to give my lady's mom (and she ALWAYS screws Windows boxes up right after I give them back[, so Infect THIS... lady]).

I never really liked the *buntu interfaces until this one, and if it pokes a little fun at Apple, only it's an open source OS, I am all for it!

EDIT: If you need to save any data/files from the machine get them BEFORE installing Linux (most desktops could pull the data/files if you plugged the hard drive in).

Naw!!! More fun to just take it apart and then shoot it or burn it to watch the different colors of flames.

I am NOT a techie guy. By the time I figured out how to take the thing apart I would have broken so many things I would never had been able to get it back together.

So if no one wants these I guess I will just get rid of them.

Well, if nobody wants them, then at least save those parts. You may need them for a computer in the future.

Do you want to fix it and know what the problem is? We may be able to help. You could use it to backup your other computer or experiment with linux as previously suggested.

If not, thanks for offering free parts

I would have given that to you had I not broke the mounts trying to get inside where the Motherboard is/was.

                          Sorry.

I could have just replaced the HD and then reinstalled what I needed. It wasn't a virus or anything.

But it was slow for the Photo editing I do. Lightroom takes a lot of ram and the 4 GB wasn't cutting it.

I went ahead and bought a very fast and well endowed laptop.
