    cisco 891 setup help

As some of you know, I work at a Non-Profit Downtown.

We just got in a Cisco 891, to replace an old router.

I am stuck on the setup, and our SmartNet support is not activated yet.

    Anyone have experience with these?

The last Cisco I installed was a Pix over 10 years ago.

Is this a CLI type of router? It looks very expensive and thus, I have not had on apportunity to play with one if that is the case.

What do you mean you are stuck on the setup? Did it not come with directions or you bought it used?

Cisco 890 Integrated Services Routers (ISR) deliver highly secure Internet access across different access media.

Down town where? I would love a crack at it...

I hated having to set up our cisco 1760 and 2811 routers. they are mainly CLI but they did offer a basic GUI option. the problem is that there are so many options that IOS offers that they couldn't design the GUI to let you set up everything. even with the GUI, you still have to use the CLI to do stuff. In the end, I ended up ripping out the GUI software off of the flash drive to give me more room for uploading images.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Cisco GUIs always suck, even when it's not an afterthought (for example, in UCS. They wanted a GUI, and it still sucks). However, why bother with a GUI, when their CLI is excellent? Can't script a GUI

                Bleh, gui.

So. On your router, you should have gige0/0.

I would configure that as your wan link. The config for that is dependent on your isp, but it should be something like this.

If you want some specific help, do this.
                1. Log into the command line interface using the console.
                2. Type: show run
                3. Paste the output
                4. Tell us what your IP address, subnet mask and gateway your ISP provided you with
                5. Tell us what your internal network subnet is (10.0.0.0? 192.168.0.0?) and what your internal gateway's IP should be.

                Sample Config (quick and dirty):
                interface Gig0/0
                ip address 1.2.3.4 255.255.255.252
                ip nat outside

                interface FastE
                ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.254.0
                ip nat inside

                ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 1.2.3.5

ip nat inside source list NAT interface GigE0/0 overload
                ip access-list extended NAT
                permit ip any any

                      been swamped,

gave up on the router for now, as I had phone numbers porting over and had to get the new phones ready to go.

Ill start on it next week, will reset to defaults and start from scratch.

It is a basic setup IMO.
I am going to run VOIP as well, the provider recommend the 891.
oh and I think I ordered the VPN lic as well, but that could wait.

Also received a couple cisco 2960 switches.

I think at this point I just need to be pointed in the right direction on the proper way to start from the beginning.

...but if one of you guys wants to come over and do it for me, there is an in-kind donation receipt with your name on it....doesn't hurt to ask right ?

PM me with details and if you're around Saturday between 12 and 3 or so. I may be able to get out and help you out then. Also, shoot me info on your ISPs details (gateway IP, your IP, subnet, DNS, etc) along with the internal network details (subnet, router IP, so forth).

If not...I can do it through teamviewer or something if you have a console cable for the router.
