Weird problem with windows 7 log-on screen

I got a laptop for my folks awhile back and set it up with 3 accounts (mom, dad, admin). The mom-dad ones are customized for either of them and have lesser privileges to keep them from screwing things up.

Anyways the problem (recently started happening) is that when it boots up you cannot click or otherwise select any of the users except for Admin. In order to log on you have to hit 'enter' and then you get the Admin account, then switch users and you can select all of them.

You can't click with a mouse, keyboard, tab, ctrl alt delete, anything. Nothing works until you press enter and then switch users.

Ideas? I have never seen this before. Safe mode, disabling all startup programs, different keyboard/mouse/different drivers nothing works.

I think safemode only gives you admin access because it is there to fix something.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

WHAT if you were to look at how your USER accounts are setup? Like, Is FAST USER SWITCHING enabled in services? Perhaps it is set to be on manual and only admin can log in, then the service starts and THEN you can select others?

Perhaps you should crash the idea by disabling all of the logins and then reenabling them? Also, perhaps you should change the login and remove the mandatory WELCOME screen. That might make a difference, maybe winblows 7 got confused.

I am only guessing. When the normal does NOT work, then you try the far fetched things yes?

I only have one windows 7 comp but maybe I will create some accounts and see if I can dupe the problem. Did you use power toys and tweak something? Maybe have a look at your group policy editor?

Is this by chance an AMD based motherboard? I remember there being issues with bad AMD Chipset drivers that would cause USB keyboard/mouse issues.

I figured out what it was, some buggy extra mouse utility that goes with the track pad. Uninstalled, reinstalled, now it is fine. For some reason it thought the track pad was a 3-button mouse. ****ing windows.
