Best UNDELETE/RECOVERY/FORENSIC software you ever used?

I hate loading up new software everytime someone brings me a disaster to undelete or recover from a corrupted fat or failing drive so I was curious, anyone use any decent software that has always been good at file and photo recovery with minimum corruption and has seemed to be very reliable and efficient throughout the years?

I was told about some piece of software that was used in forensics and the guy gave me a copy to play with but I forgot what it was called and I lost the disk.

Anyways, just curious about the other options out there...

In a pinch, I have used Recuva. Also I have used GetDataBack on some really messed up drives with good results.

GetDataBack works like a freaking champ. Use it to get customer data retrieved if the drive has bad spots.

I used GetDataBack before and I used Recuva I THINK, I have user Steller Phoenix (not impressed) and R-studio (did nothing for me) as well as some of the cheapies.

I even used one called Find and Mount Pro that was kinda of good but it seemed to be a one trick pony, it found old partitions and made them into drive letters and then allowed you to recover stuff from them.

There were two programs that did that but only one worked decent at it, but they BOTH took forever...

It seems that a lot of the good programs do not get updated very well. I still have a program that said it was forensic data recovery but the interface was so 16 bit/DOS looking that I wondered how those guys stayed in business. I do not think it saw sata stuff or usb though so I ended up dumping it because if THAT was what the FBI/Police used then we had nothing to fear... BUt maybe they have updated it by now. :\

I guess it just seemed that every year new programs come out and I know that tech changes so I figure that programs change too.

I have used ontrack and spinrite did not recover media but was supposed to do something with a HD, but I did not want to 'speriment on the drive so I wanted READ and extract. heh. Looks like the same stuff is still around.

So I guess really the question I should have asked is is the same stuff still good or are there any new winners out there?
