Just Moved. Need Internet. What do you Recommend?

If you want cable modem you would have to go to whoever is your local cable company. Same thing for DSL, but you have to go thru whoever is the phone provider for where you live.

For example if Charter was your cable company you can't call Time Warner to get their service because their lines are not in your area.

I just moved in to a different house, and I would like to get reliable high-speed internet. I do not need or want TV or Phone, or any bundles. Just Internet.

I am hoping to be around $40 a month, after taxes and fees. Is that possible?

I looked at Verizon, but they don't offer just internet, and if you bundle it with a basic phone plan (just so I can get the internet) it was $45 before taxes and fees.

Can any other provider beat that?

Also, I would prefer to pay month by month, not a 12 or 24 month agreement...

Verizon will do just internet. I have it. I have the higher speed. I get about 25Mbps up and 50-60Mbps down for 84.99 per month. no taxes no boxes no nothing.

I talked to some neighbors and they have Charter, and they highly recommended it.

When the contract is up and they switch you from the promo price over to the $45-$50 plan, you can just call them up and let them know you're considering fios and satellite, and they'll usually extend the promo another 6-12 months. And you can keep on doing this whenever the promo ends. It's a win-win for everyone. The cable company keeps your business, the agent you talk to gets credit for salvaging an account, and you keep your cable internet for the promo price.
