So you just want to replace the fan, and enter the BIOS?

Have you tried using "password" for the password yet?

Have you tried a LOOPBACK to bypass the bios password?

Also, when you try to access the bios or whatever does it give you a challenge code before asking for a password?

If you are given a challenge code you might be in luck, but if you have a tosh and just missing a bios pw then you might just need a loopback, can you post more info on specific model.

The tecra uses a loopback to bypass bios pw. I bet the sat might as well...

Hmmm, have you given this a try?

Most laptops will require you to short the CMOS chip while powering up (with it mostly disassembled, naturally) to clear the BIOS password. Is this from a bad BIOS update, like here: ?
I want to rescue this 7 year old laptop that has been crippled by a glitch in its BIOS: 'A "Password =" prompt may be displayed when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password ha...

I've done it before and it's a pretty substantial pain in the butt. As for the fan, could be firmware related but likely you just need a replacement.

Here is video tutorial demonstrating how to replace the fan.

However, if you don't feel comfortable doing this, I would highly recommend you get a professional to do it for you.

Taking apart laptops is one thing that is pretty specialized because some things have screws but other things have insanely complicated snaps that are nearly impossible to open without breaking unless you have the right tools. Basically a bunch of specially coated shims and levers. I don't have these otherwise I would do it.

Since you don't have the BIOS password you might have to replace the main board. Most modern laptops don't have a way to reset the password, it's a theft deterrent.
