Do I need a new computer?

I have been holding out for years it was old 5 years ago when I bought it but vowed not to change it til I was forced.
Sporting xp operating system but still no issues everything runs smooth.

I bought a pair of video spy sun glasses hooked up the USB but was told it exceeded the power

Clearly 1st generation USB and not USB 2 on my system without exact specs can I upgrade my USB

It is hard to tell without specific info about your system. If it is a desktop machine, you can get a new USB card and it will be much faster. One issue is a lot of people get a USB hub that supports a less version of USB than their computer supports. I mention this just to make sure you are not being slowed by your USB hub.

You just need a powered USB hub, or an internal card if you have a desktop.

As previously stated, a self powered USB hub should resolve your problem. The USB spec says 100mA per port for a hub powered device is the maximum, and 500mA for a self powered device.

I do find it hard to believe that those glasses would draw more than 100mA.

I am no expert but a powered hub helps with power. Assuming you are connecting it through a slow USB port on the computer, you will still be limited to the speed of the slow USB port. You need a new USB card in the computer.

Look at Amazon with that 2A link and you can get a USB pci/pci-e card for a few dollars.

Check that you have PCI and not PCI-E for the above card.

                They are simple to install.

As for your computer BAH! There is NOTHING wrong with it. I have windows XP on both of my machines (master and gaming) and windows 7 on my multimedia system.

What matters is the motherboard you have. Do you have a custom built box with a name brand motherboard or do you have a POS dell or something like that? If you have the manual to your mobo you can look up the specds and connections in it and it will tell you how many of usb 1.1 and 2.0 and 3.0 that you have. USB 3.0 is fresh out and I doubt you have that but you SHOULD have usb 2.0 AND usb 1.1. Another thing to watch also is the cable you use. I THINK there is a difference between the usb 1.1/1.0 and the usb 2.0 cables even though they appear similar at a glance. USB 2.0 cables will say HI-SPEED on them and a usb 3 cable I think has a label that says "WARNING: Touching this without gloves will result in 3rd degree burns..." j/k but usb 3 is WAY faster (4133mbit?) vs the 480 of v2.

Sorry, I do not google my facts, I go off of memory so you get an honest reply. Check your cable, and check your mobo. Then if nee be buy a new adapter card. JUST make certain that it will fit your comp. If you got a Dell optiplex it might not fit unless it is a low profile card. GL and let us know how it goes...
