Windows 8 Failed To Install!!! WTF

Ok so I purchased the upgrade to Windows 8 via this thread http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ight=windows+8

I downloaded the file and burned the ISO to a DVD. I go to run the install on startup and I get the Windows 8 splash screen, but then I get some message stating there has been an error and windows will restart yadayadayyada...

So next I try to run the upgrade through Windows... same thing. around 40-50% it just says "failed to install".

Next I format the HD and do a clean install of Windows 7.

Try again on startup to install. Failed.

    Try again through Windows. Failed.

All my drivers are UTD. There are no conflicts.

I do a selective start up. Try again. failed.

    I don't get it.

It's an ASUS Mobo, Intel i5, 4 gigs of RAM, zero problems until now.

    Any suggestions?

I am running XP until they yank it from my cold dead hands, but I would redownload and reburn. If the results are the same, come back.

What type of video card? Try using the built-in card to install?

          found this:
As we've said, over and over and over and over.......there is NO UPGRADE path from any OS to Win-8.
Win-8, when it installs wipes out the previous OS.
Are you trying to upgrade or are you choosing custom(and doing a fresh install)?

Okay... actually... aren'e ya supposed to wait until everybody else buys, has problems, and then they patch this-patch that... get the bugs out.

Then you buy new OS... yes?

I always prefer fresh install... but I chose all available options and none worked.
I am going to redownload and try to install from a USB drive when I get home from work and go from there.

Yup... it didn't like one of my programs, so that's when I decided to format the HD to give it a hassle free install. Still failed lol

Most likely culprit is the CD/DVD-ROM drive. I've encountered similar problems before and it turned out that the CD/DVD-ROM drive was bad and causing bad read of the disc. Or the burn is bad as Montu suggested above.

If you have a USB drive or a large enough USB flash drive, and your motherboard can boot up using USB devices, you might want to try putting the ISO into a USB (flash) drive and install from it instead.

The reason why I asked is, I've seen add-on video cards cause systems to crash during install. Windows finds both cards and it goes to activate the other card, it crashes. If you have an onboard video, remove the add-on card and try installing Windows again.

Once it's done, add the add-on video card and go from there.

It might take some time to work this out, and some trial and error, but here are the correct steps to resolve most new M$ OS issues, Beta, or Full, but you will need a computer or other device that has access to the Internet with a browser:

                            1) Go to http://distrowatch.com
                            2) Choose something you have heard of, d/load ISO, and burn
                            3) Try install, if anything is confusing, use browser on other computer to research solution or howto
                            4) Smile, and learn more than everybody else trying to deal with M$ Products that try to reinvent the wheel, when it worked WAY better in WinXP (even PRE-SP3).

This is MY plan anyway, as I don't play games on the computer anymore...

I believe Windows 8 is going to be another Microsoft nightmare. I have the receipt for THREE laptops purchased from Best Buy and returned the same day or the next day, one after the other, because NONE of them would work NEW out of the box. It wasn't MY issue. The "Geek Squad" declared them all "defective."

I finally chose a Windows 7 laptop instead. Windows 8 is designed to cater to the troglodytes who cannot type or spell or use a keyboard or a mouse. It is designed for touchscreen PCs.
