Just wondering what you all are using as your internet provider. (ATT? Comcast?)

Price? Service? Speed?

Looking around SF/DC area. I don't want any TV package since I stream everything. I do play some video game (BF3) online from time to time. So I do need a bit of speed.

I use Time Warner. Like their service and never had an issue. The speed I get is 10/1 and I pay $50 a month. BF3 plays great with low pings on LA servers.

I have Verizon High Speed DSL ( Speed 3/1 ) right now & paying $33.99 per month. It used to be dirt cheap and kept creeping up $5 at a time. I need a great deal right now.

I have 2: Comcast (Cable) and Megapath (DSL). Both are pretty ok, Comcast was rocky at the start and for quite a while until I replaced the modem.

AT&T DSL Direct (no need for landline), 15/1, $14.95/mo, no fees, no taxes, $14.95/mo is EXACTLY just that.

Comcast Xfinity is the option here, even though At&t keeps saying they are available, and arent. The price you pay for being where people want to bug out to.

$70/mo, 25-30 DL, upload whatever it is, I don't keep track.

I have Sonic.net Fusion which is advertised at $40 a month but ends up being $50 after taxes and fees.

Speeds vary depending on how far you are from the CO. If you are super close, then you could get speeds "up to 20Mpbs" http://www.sonic.net/solutions/home/internet/fusion/

These guys are a California based company with excellent tech support and customer service. I'm a little far from the central office at about 9,000 ft so my speeds are pretty low at 4/1Mpbs, but knowing I don't have to play by Comcast or ATT's rules is worth it to me.

If you're vaguely interested, call them up and they should be able to look up how far you are from the CO to give you an idea of the bandwidth you should expect. They also don't employ a bandwidth cap which was one of my main reasons for picking them.

I live in DC and use Astound (formerly RCN). I pay ~$70/month for internet only with speeds around 25/5 and a 300/GB per month cap. I can download Linux ISO's between 2 and 2.5 MB/sec and have decently low latency if that helps. They also have a higher tier of service I believe.

I have DSLExtreme and I LOVE them.

6000mb down and 768mb up. I pay about $25 a month. VERY seldom if ever are there disruptions to my service. ANY issues I have tend to come from my own Zoom x5 or X6 modem/router/switch/firewall/whatever else it is.

My master system does the downoading and I have a program called Netlimiter that allows me to throttle down the speeds so that I can also play games while I am downloading.

I made a mistake. I meant Kbps, not mbps...
but in reality I THINK I am hitting at around 611-670 down and I have not really measured how fast I can transmit. I have not done all of the math but I know it takes about 5 seconds to d/l 1MB and about 15-25 seconds to upload 1MB.

Where they get their speeds who knows, They also told me I was at the end of the line and could not go any faster or else they would have some other servies they would gladly sell me but for some reason I am stuck here. It aint so bad, I can grab a 5GB download in about 2 hours.


yeah yeah yeah, I have often wondered why it is not that fast myself, and then I think, OH it must be Kbps. Their site states that also.
