Need a new wireless router

Where are you located?
I ended up with a NIB and unopened router that I have not use for, it is this model:
Belkin F5D8235-4 4-Port N+ wireless router
I can ship it to you for $35 if you would like it and think it may work for you..."But far more numerous was the herd of such, Who think too little and who talk too much." -John Dryden -
Keep in mind that a new wireless standard (802.11ac) is getting close to approval but I don't think it's official yet. If you're not willing to put up with early adopter headaches (and I'm not) then I'd look hard at an Asus RT-N66U (review) or the tried and true RT-N56U (review). I have the RT-N56U and it's a rock solid very simple to setup router with exceptional wireless range. It's only real shortcoming is something 99% of users don't need and that's that it doesn't allow you to manually associate device names with fixed IPs just IPs with MAC addresses. That's something you probably don't need but as an old network admin I like being able to do that. For most people the $110 RT-N56U is plenty of router.Last edited by sholling; 09-16-2012, 12:58 PM."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--

is the Asus simultaneous dual band ?
simultaneous dual band is nice when streaming large files and still having bandwidth for other 'puters in the networkOriginally posted by Ronald ReaganBefore I refuse to take your questions, I have an opening statement.Comment

Yes it is. Before I ran Cat5e to the entertainment centers I had them on the 5ghz band and my laptop and phone on 2.4. Keep in mind that not even 802.11n is fast enough to reliably stream full sized BD movies but will do DVD rips just fine."Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT--

Keep in mind dual-band and dual-radio are not the same thing. Most of these have to be manually put to either 2.4 or 5. Dual radio .11n is not cheap.
On .11ac, they will eventually approve the standard, but it is going to take a long time before there is solid consumer .11ac. .11n didn't take off for a long time after a long time of waiting for certification. The companies want to see a market ROI on their .11n and I feel drag their feet. One thing about wifi - known quality first. It sucks balls to lose connectivity and random outages requiring system resets. The one you want is you setup and you don't need to touch, and works through your laptop, pad, and smartphone without hassle."Just leave me alone, I know what to do." - Kimi Raikkonen

I have been using a Zoom X6 wireless Modem/Router/Firewall/4 port Switch. I have loved it but it seems that lately it seems to lose connection about once every few days or so. I think it might be over heating since it is about 4 years old but it sucks if I am in the middle of downloading or playing games and that happens.
HOWEVER, it is also NICE to only need ONE box to do all of that stuff. I would say to check your connections and make sure that there is nobody outside or a neighbor stealing your bandwidth because they hacked you. Let's not rule that out for sure yet. Change the encryption and pass and see if your fast speeds are back and then wait to see how long before they slow down. That might help.
I am in the same boat as you though. I want to get a new wireless router but I also want a modem and firewall built in. It does not need a switch though cause I have a 16 port that I am running.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...Comment

You cannot go wrong with either one of these. One does 300Mbps max wireless and the other can do up to 450Mbps. You devices will need to support that speed though.
