Install Windows 7 on New SSD

I'm trying to convert my little netbook to a SSD. I'm having trouble.
My computer didn't come with a disk for Windows 7 and doesn't have a CD drive. I have Norton Ghost and still can't figure out how to either move the software over or just to a fresh install. I'd prefer a fresh install since I haven't used the computer much anyway. Does anyone know where I can find a guide to do this? Or can I pay a calgunner to do this for me that won't charge me an arm and leg? Or possibly a trade? Thanks

I believe you can call with your windows 7 serial number, and that they will ship you a disk.

    USB cd drive.
    Looking for a 3" Magnum 870 $200-$250ish

Any option that won't cost me buying a drive? I guess its not that bad a cost.
I'll try calling them tomorrow. Thanks

my netbook has the recovery software on a partition...hmmm maybe...maybe if you install the SSD and put the old drive in a USB cradle you could recover from that?? maybe its doable...I dunno

Yeah you might be able to duplicate the directory structure onto a flash drive and then boot from that and install windows, but I THINK you can also put it all on a flash drive and then start it from within windows and then when it restarts you will be able to install it.

I just installed windows home premium onto an ssd two days ago for someone. It was an intel 330 SSD (60gb) and it seems decent.

To make things easier, you might want to consider picking up one of those devices that you can plug into an internal drive and it makes it into a USB drive. Those things are great, I have my blur-ray burner hooked up to one now. It is nice blasting 25GB at a time off my hd for data storage...

For what it is worth, everyone should have some of these pieces. They really make your life easier.
1 x Internal DVD burner ($35 MAX online after shipping)
1 x Internal drive converter w/power source. ($25 MAX after shipping)

If you get this one the psu burns out fast but there is a guy on FLEABAY that sells replacements, his is GREAT. he talks smack on other CHEAPER ones and I believe him because I have been running HIS psu for over a year with NO problems at all. Looks like a laptop PSU/ac adapter but it works GREAT to power up any internal drive.

If you have those two items you can take your drive out of the netbook and just transfer/image it onto the other drive (ssd) and it would also be good to go.

Also, be careful with what you are trying to do. SOME manufacturers have a chopped version of winblows on their computers (DELL) and sometimes (although not often but more often than not) when you try to install a full version you have errors and things do not match up. It is because you have to have the modified for the manufacturer's disk for that. I have ONLY come across it ONCE and I ended up tossing out the case/mobo and getting replacements for a computer upgrade from windows 98 to XP for someone. That was years ago but it is one thing that Dell does to keep you as THEIR customer.

There should be a recovery disc creation program on the machine. Run that and it will allow you to put the recovery media on a USB thumb drive.

Do you have another Windows computer you can use? Or perhaps borrow one? If you can, the easiest way to do this would be to get a USB Hard disk dock like this:

Connect it to the other computer, remove the drive from your netbook and insert it into the dock. Also insert the SSD into the dock. Run North Ghost on the computer and you'll be able to clone your netbook drive to the SSD.
