is there any call blocking devices for home phones???

the national do not call registry is a joke and still keep getting 8-12 spam calls
    a day.

    1) is there any call blocking devices for home phones?

my service provider does not offer any kind of blocking service at all.

I just did a quick search and found call block apps. Google play has a few free ones, saw one for $5.99. I Might try a free one.

If you're still looking, try this one:

        Extreme Call Blocker Droid

Before I moved everything to Google voice where I can block them before my phone even rings, I used that app. Was a lifesaver.

Panasonic makes several phones now with a call block feature, but they only block up TO 30 numbers.

You can also program it to block ALL "caller unknown" calls, but that will ALSO block ALL calls with 'hidden' numbers, including friends/relatives who use that feature.

yea long ago i imagined a device that was like an answering machine but would act different

it would say please enter your phone number and i will connect you
then the device would call the person back and ring the phones in the house

you could set the machine to only dial certain prefixes and now with our cell phones not even charging for long distance it could work better

Just disconnect the cord when you're home. Who uses home line nowadays? Magic jack is like $20 per year unlimited us and Canada. If you talk a lot. If not then disconnect the service altogether. Use your cell phone number for important stuff and magic jack for voicemails you don't want to pick up. I haven't had an AT&T home line since 2007. It's perfect.

I use to be able to block My ex-wife from every number she called from, she must have used every pay phone in town back then. 90s. That was at&t. and it was worth every damn penny.

I still have a home number, since I don't like to give out my cell for any type of business,it's my attempt to keep unwanted calls from my cell.

I switched everything over to google voice years ago. I can block any number I want with a click. The caller gets that recorded message the phone company plays when you call a number that's been disconnected. They automatically block solicitation calls for you, too. Spam filtering for phones, it's great.

I can change phones and numbers on on a whim because my google voice number never changes. I love this service.

                            Here is a secret.

I dunno about the national DO NOT CALL registry since it seems to have cut back all of my calls that we were getting. Now though the new thing that REALLY pisses me off is these damn SMS/TEXT messages I get on my cell phone at 2 in the morning or whenever telling me to go to some website or what not cause I won a target gift card yadda yadda yadda... THAT **** pisses me off right there.

Now, here is a little secret. you know that little three toned recording that tells folks that the number you are calling has been disconnected or is no longer in service? Supposedly if you put that TRIPLE TONE as the opening tone on your voicemail or answering machine, then record your message, that signals to telemarketing machines to remove the number from the list and hang up cause it is a dead number. It might cut back a lot of your calls, meanwhile, all human callers can get through.

At least it USED to do that. You should try it and see if it helps any.

I would forward calls to google voice where you can manage who to block.

Also, if you have SMS spam, forward the message to 7726 (SPAM) and your provider will block them
