+1 for HandBrake. I use it all the time.

I use Linux + K9Copy for full rips. I use handbrake for making mobile copies for my iPhone, Tablet, and Laptop.

HandBrake works great, BUT....

It won't rip DVD's with encryption on the, and these days that's most of them out there. Unless you use another free (but old) program like DVDdecrypter and then use HandBrake, you can rip a DVD.

ok, just to applications you need. SlySoft AnyDVD and Elby CloneDVD Mobile.

I say mobile cause it will compress them to smaller sizes which is great for your laptop.

youll be out in the desert not a movie theater so you will need a lot of movie not just a few! small investment, just buy the lifetime versions! well well worth it!
