    Missing Document Folder from CPU

    Hello,

I've came across a very serious issue, my Document folder seems to be missing from my computer, I'm using Windows Vista as my OS. This is serious because I have some very important documents in that particular folder, and now I'm afraid that I can no longer retrieve them. I have restarted my computer and now when I click on the 'Documents' tab, it will open, but there is nothing in the folder but a sub-folder named 'Desktop Icons'

Please help me get my Document folder back with it's original contents that I had saved in there before it disappeared, or just the documents containing in the folder at least! Thanks in advance.

    For starters
What operating system are you running?

Are there multiple user accounts on the computer? If yes, did you check to make sure you were logged into the correct account?

Windows Vista is my OS, I'm using a Toshiba Satellite Model P305D-S8818 laptop. I only have one account on this laptop, which is the administrator.

        Ok,

Try this, this will show any hidden files or folders in a directory. It is possible that somehow everything in that folder may have been hidden.

Click on My Computer. Top left click the Organize button, then click "Folder and Search Options"

Now click the view tab, and you will see Under Hidden Files and Folders two options. Make sure "Show Hidden, files, folders, and drives" is selected.

Then go back and check your My Documents folder.

Delete the System32 Folder and Reboot. You won't have to worry about the folder anymore.

^This, ONLY IF you are planning to run Linux... instead of Windows.

Your PC may have created a temporary profile. Browse to c:\users and look in those folders for you documents.

Find help and how-to articles for Windows operating systems. Get support for Windows and learn about installation, updates, privacy, security and more.

This is basic, but have you tried running a search for any filename that was in your Document folder? Maybe it just...moved itself.

If you can't find the files run cmd:

                      cd \users (a "BACKSLASH", not a "/")
                      dir *<KnownPartOfFileName>*<SecondPartOfFilename>*.* /s (ie "dir *jenna*haze*.* /s")
Do not include the stuff in the "(" or ")". This works in Win7, but I have not run Vista on anything long enough to test on Vista...

                        Look in
                        Code:
                        C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents
and you should find your files. What likely happened is the linked path for My Documents got changed.

why not just search out C for the files you are missing if you find it you will find the docs folder, never ran Vista myself after the beta so not much more help other then just searching for the known missing files and hope they havent been deleted .....

If they DID get deleted, it MIGHT be possible for you to restore your system to an earlier date. MAYBE if you have the feature turned on and if this doc folder is not MASSIVE but I am unfamiliar with windows vista. I have only used this for system files and program icons. It MIGHT also woirk for the document files. ELSE you might need some data recovery software because you MIGHT have a bad HD or your fat is corrupted and THAT is the start of all kinds of awfulness. Too bad you are not close to riverside, I would offer to help cause I got a bag of tricks but I dunno where the hell PRK is... Good luck bro.
