DayZ mod is awesome! It was created as a proof of concept by one of the Arma II devs, and they plan to implement it into Arma III soon after release.

Very, very fun, and quite scary when you get surrounded by a horde out of nowhere.

And AMAZINGLY frustrating. You die a lot and start over every single time with no weapon. I played about 20 games over the last few days. I managed to get a weapon about 50% of the time and managed to find a pistol only twice. If you do give this a shot I strongly suggest you find an external community you are part of that plays and get some people together. Its far far easier with a couple partners.

For starters look at the servers, find a recruit level server with a low people population. Go in there with a couple others and get some good gear since you will mainly have to deal with zombies and not hostile players. Nearly everyone you encounter will shoot you on sight and take your stuff. One interesting thing is you can play different servers but keep your stuff. Ie, I logged out of one server and when I logged in later to play on a diff one I had same char and gear and in same place.

The devs like to call it a social experiment pitting humans against humans but it's really become tiresome.

The new version (ARMA 3) hopefully has dedicated server files so that I can run my own server and my buddies can join and play cooperatively or adversarial.

But yes, investing hours exploring the land, getting some sweet loot, only to be capped by a bandit is tiresome and not all that fun to me.

But others love it so give it a shot and good luck!

I played for a few weeks. I had a couple of characters that were alive for 4+ days, found silenced M4s, m14 rifles with aimpoints, 870s with flashlights. I've pretty much found every item in the mod. I almost always worked alone, it was too big of a risk to trust anyone. Sometimes I'd come up on someone who was new and lost, so I would help them.
I didn't look for fights and would hide in bushes while 3 - 6 man squads ran past within feet.

I stopped playing because 4 out of 5 times I would be searching a building or airfield and would desync and then end up dying without seeing anyone.

It's a great mod and I hope some of the bugs will be worked out, especially arma 2 specific bugs fixed in arma 3.

If we could get a bunch of people into a game it may be fun.

You need Arma 2 for PC only.

by reading the links i am guessing the mod for day z is testing phase? and when arma III comes out so will the finished version of Day z?
