Thats a huge deal for me too. I'm a perfectionist and I love having an answer to problems when people come to me... thats why I'm paid. With hosted solutions, nobody is accountable. People come to me "why is the email down?" I feel like a total douche when I have to say "I don't know". All my stuff is up and I get to call Manmeat in some Indian ghetto who has no care about our business and no responsibility for our continuity or customers and he tells me "yes, it is down, we are working on it" No ETA. Nothing. What am I supposed to tell my people? "Uh, yeah, sorry, its down. I don't know why and I have no idea how long it will take" Its my job to provide solutions and answers.

My boss regularly accuses me of "caring too much". I thought thats what I was getting paid to do...

it took me an hour to get the office 365 people to tell me there is no message tracking right now, its a known issue with a fix in the next rollup but there is no ETA on the rollout. an hour of my time is not cheap. and i have to charge the customer either way, an hour spent is an hour spent. i hate it.

        manmeat.

I mean this is where due diligence during the exploratory phase pays off. Only the wife handles my manmeat around here

          Potential cloud investments
Cloud hosting - Amazon, MS Azure, AT&T, HP, blah balh blah - it's all about scale and cheap power. A race to the lowest cost.
Control and monitoring software - VMware, several others
Security tools - mostly the same players.
Application developers - i think the best place to research. Cloud removes the entry cost of hardware and OS, so older legacy programs could be prime target.
