Limited or no connentivity Win7

I have excellent connection but I can't get internet. Also my network says unidentified network and is under public network and i can't change it.

I really need help here. I can't figure this damn thing out even tho I been playing with it for about 2 hours. PLEASE HELP!

Some things to try:

Reboot cable/DSL Modem & router

Are you getting a valid IP from the router?

Are you connecting to the correct wireless network?

Can you get internet connection if you use a wired connection?

I had similar problems and it came down to issues between the computer and the router. Everything was working, upgraded to new router and it was fine then upgraded to win 7 and it wouldn't work. Changed routers and it worked.

What kind of router, what wireless card?

Rebooted router and its the same thing. Im wireless and its not working at all. Im connected to the right network with password and key. Im connected to a router at&t gave and I have no idea what kind of wireless card I have... I know I have HP wireless assist.

Try updating the Firmware on the router, if still nothing then update your PC's Wireless Drivers. Good Luck!

Have you tried rebooting the modem also? Or is the router and modem all in one?

Have you tried running a repair on the wireless network connection?

Does the router have a hard wire connection? If so can you connect to that and test if you can get internet access that way?

Its a all in one router they gave us. I can't direct connect right now since the router is not accessible ATM. Ill try that tomorrow because like a dumb *** I deleted my wifi network adapters and can't reinstall without connection. Yes, I did get that info from the interweb on my phone, lol

Connecting it direct works just fine. It also gives me an option of home or work etc. With the wifi it just says public network, no network access with excellent connection. This is pissing me off.

Sounds like it has to do with something with the wireless config on your laptop.

Can you delete the connection to your wireless network and recreate it.

Yeah I did that and I deleted and reinstalled my wifi driver. Not sure how to fix this. Looking on the web, its seems this is an issue for win7. If I only can change the network location it should work fine. The problem is I have no clue on his to do this.

The problem is that under my network there is no link to change it. That was for Win7 beta if i recall not the Win7 i have.
My laptop is useless without wifi connection..... USELESS!

this is quick and worth a shot...

go to start > run > type in "cmd"

type in the following
"netsh winsock reset catalog" press enter

then type in

"netsh int ip reset reset.log hit"

hit enter

reboot the system

this is just a shot in the dark i always try with any connectivity issues because its quick and easy to do.

I assume other devices are able to connect and access the internet via wireless?

I'll do this when i get home later today. All other devices connect without a problem.

There was a mention you didn't know what wireless adapter you had. Did you delete the adapter and drivers from the computer? If you reinstalled it did you get the right driver? If the wireless card came with the HP laptop you can go to HP's website and look under the model of laptop you have and it will tell you what wireless card you have and can also download the latest drivers.
