easiest way is to just go into settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and Settings.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Submerge it in water and throw it into a volcano. Either do what was mentioned above or plug it into iTunes and restore. Those are the best 2 options.

lol, I hear there was a app that would basically fill all the memory with 1's and 0's and it does it a few times then you restore it and its basically new?

There may be a computer app that could mount the iPhone and write zeroes I suppose, but I would feel safe restoring to clean firmware install.

You got some super secret government classified info on their or something? Never understood why people will go to such great measures, plug it into iTunes and use that to do a factory reset.

Put it into DFU/recovery mode and then use iTunes to restore it.

hold the power and home button for 10 seconds, which will make the phone erase, but also transfer information to your memory, so while you use the phone you will have information on it, but no one else will be able to see it.
