Terrible Xbox 360 HDMI graphics?

i know at release the install thing was broken/reversed. whereby people installing the game had lower quality then those who did not.

My xbox 360 hdmi is slightly (and I mean slightly) more clear and bright than if I run componant out at the same resolution.

My guesses to your issue are as follows:

1) your hdmi port on your Htdv has its own set of video settings which are set in a fashion that is blurring things out for you (too much contrast, too much sharpness, etc)

2) bad hdmi cable. Try one you know works.

3) bad hdmi port on the x360 or tv. Try hooking the x360 to a different tv and see what happens.

i guess you forgot the little info that for BF3, you have to install the game to HDD in order to make the game use the Hi-Res textures. if you don't it defaults to low-res in order to keep gameplay at 60FPS.

Consoles gamres are only in 720p. The only time you'll get 1080p output on a console is when doing something like watching Netflix.

Possibly. I'm going stop by Target/BB/Walmart and pick up a brand HDMI cable and try that.

Also, I'm beginning to suspect the settings or even my LCD TV in general. Shadows in the game are grainy/blurry

As I said previously, I did not have the game installed on my original Xbox 360 console HDD and the graphics were still very impressive

You do know that some other stores offer greatly discounted prices for HDMI and other electronic components, right? I use Willy's Electronics or Odd Cables in SD instead of Best Buy, Target or Fry's for many project components. HDMI cables are a third or less of Fry's price so it's worth it. Look for stores that sell security cameras, networking supplies, etc. It's the type if store used by commercial installers. Some have wholesale requirement but not all. Lots of great info and suggestions to be found there too for other projects.

Does your TV have a "game" mode? Try switching to that and see if that helps. On my TV I find THX mode looks better than game mode even when playing games.

Not sure where you got your HDMI cables, but I get all my cables from monoprice. Not brands like monster, but everything they sell there is amazing. I've had no issues with the hundreds of cables from them.

I'm going to exchange the console for another one. It's definitely an internal cpu/display problem. Cheap HDMI cable or not, the graphics should at least be the same as when a Component HD A/V cable was utilized.

I had one bad cable from monoprice(out of 20+). That being said, I had ordered a couple of spares anyway considering they were $3 compared to $30(or even $90 for the monster cable garbage). Overnight shipping for CA is also pretty awesome.

Actually, I've determined that there are two types of audiophiles.

The people that hate the lame speakers built into TVs, hate the bose speaker garbage, hate HTIB systems, etc.

Then there are the audiophiles who just throw money at anything because it's expensive.

I can appreciate a high end klipsch system with mcintosh amps(wish I could afford that), but it doesn't mean the owner really needs to spend $14,000 on cables either.

Thats not entirely true as I've recently found out when trying to use some SPDIF stuff. You can have it "sort-of" sync up where the sound is very grainy and digital sounding. I was trying to connect my POD HD to a TC Electronics interface. I eventually got it to work but it was annoying because I too thought that the 1's and 0's either get there or they don't... not "sort of" get there.

There was a great article where they tested some of these guys and they couldn't tell the difference between a "high end" cable and a coat hanger.

Kind of like the wine snobs who can't tell the difference between white wines with red food coloring in it and real red wines or they swear they can tell the difference between cheap wine poured into an expensive bottle and the cheap wine in its original bottle.

UPDATE:

Purchased BNIB Xbox 360 250gb console and MS data transfer cable. Updated the new console via wired internet connection. Console is not recognizing the USB device; therefore, I can't transfer data from my original 20gb HDD to my new 250gb console.

I tried to see if my buddies Xbox would recognize the USB and it did not. I'm guessing I screwed something up. Maybe the copper prong(s) inside the 20gb HDD

I'm about to quit console gaming and buy another computer

I don't know what you just described above.

If you got the official MS transfer cable, you plug the usb end into your new console, and you remove your old HDD from your OLD x360 and plug it directly into the bigger plastic block end that has the correct fitting to directly fit into the old HDD plug.

Once you do that, you turn on your new x360 and your new x360 should auto-magically ask you to transfer everything over.

I can't imagine why that would not work. Aside from that, the x360 can accept up to 8 gig USB memory thumb drives. If you have access to one of those, you can transfer things over via copying each individual file you want from your old x360 onto the USB stick and then over to the HDD on your new X360.
