It kills me to hear so many people compare it to WOW... I played WOW when it was first released and by far it was a lot worse then SWTOR... At 60 there was almost nothing to do and the only PVP was world based with no rewards at all. We killed time exploring, gold farming, raiding cities, ganking and running the few dungeons we could...

It really seems like this new generation of MMO gamers is very demanding and doesn't have as much of an interest in entertaining themselves while waiting for new content. Everyone expects the game to be polished and finished like WOW.... I bought a new PC just to play the game and have a bunch of friends and family into it now, so we're in it for the long haul, but I'm stumped at some of the attitudes and soap boxes I've read on SWTOR community forum..

I sadly can't bring myself back to WOW, it isn't the game I originally fell in love with... All people do now is sit in cities and que for Dungeons or BG's... The open world pvp and ganking is almost non-existent...
So perhaps my comments were taken out of context. I think in this thread i already proclaimed this easily the best, most well polished MMO release ever, and i have seen them all. I'm comparing it to WoW because WoW is the competition, and the industry standard today weather we like it or not. i didnt expect it to be as well polished, nor do i really fault it for not being. im just stating the facts. it is not as well polished, and after experiencing one story line from start to finish the other aspects of the game do feel lacking. But i have many of the same issues with WoW that i have with TOR, being that my attraction to these games is focused almost entirely on pvp, and specifically group pvp.

There is really nothing that TOR has that WoW does not. The setting, the look, all of these things are secondary to me. i like pvp and the mechanics therein. The novelty of lightsabers and star wars has worn off. the flash point stories are uncomplaining, there is no world pvp, there is no city raiding.

Im not going to keep playing WoW, i only purchased another month so i could do some direct comparison. I just havnt decided if i am going to keep playing TOR either.

I've played quite a few MMOs and SWTOR has been the smoothest/best launch with less bugs compared to the other MMOs I've played.

MMORPGs I've played in chronological order:
      Everquest (less than 3 months)
Star Wars Galaxies (started in beta, went 1 year)
EVE Online (less than 3 months)
City of Heroes (less than 3 months)
World of Warcraft (started in beta, went 5 years)
City of Vilians (less than 3 months)
Matrix Online (less than 1 month)
Dungeons & Dragons Online (started in beta, went 6 months)
Lord of the Rings Online (started in beta, went 6 months)
Age of Conan (started in beta, went 3 months)
Dark & Light (less than 1 month)
Vanguard (started in beta, went 1 month)
Warhammer Online (started in beta, went 6 months)
      9Dragons (less than 1 month)
Star Wars The Old Republic (started in beta, still playing)

      I renewed for 6 months.

MMOs are being judged on if they can last 1 year.
If they can gain & maintain subscriptions for a year, it's considered a success.
If they can't, then it's considered a failure and destined for cancellation (example... Matrix Online) or free-to-play mode (example... Lord of the Rings Online).

I cancelled yesterday. The patch notes are very telling. The developers clearly do not have a "vision" for what the game is to become. Major issues still exist but they have already started balancing classes for endgame pvp.

Never mind this game is touted as a largely story driven pve game. If you take the time, review patch notes since release (only since release) - its very clear there is a divide between the devs or at least the goals of the game are not in sync with the development process.

As a developer this is ridiculous. For you gunnies that arent very savy with software development processes: this is like taking a mini-14, spending hundreds of dollars for parts and work to re-chamber it to 30-06 -- then taking it skeet shooting

ie: "****s all over the place and no one has a clear path to lead the dev team down, apparently"

        So i cancelled.

What happens when you have to work with George Lucas.
BioWare had certain things in beta, but had to removed them because GL didn't like it or wasn't convinced it should be part of his universe.

So, BioWare in developing also has to make last minute changes in order to cater to the whims of GL, which isn't always a good thing at times.

Is this the one that is allowing same-sex "ENCOUNTERS"?

                (MANY are boycotting THAT one.)

"maybe" ? i play a bro with a gun that has a chick with a gun tag along.... so i cant confirm or deny.

@Quiet : Money changes things, don't it? The entire pvp portion of the game seems to have been conceived, designed, and added as an entire appeasement novelty for some perceived market demand.

I'm usually a very avid pvper but this game i entirely approached as it was touted: pve story driven.

its the primary reason I cancelled - lack of focus and where there is focus, its on portions of the game that are largely meaningless to the game's known goal : epic story time theater with your friends.

BioWare original intended to implment same sex relationships into the game, but GL was not convinced it belonged in the Star Wars universe. While the game was in beta, GL changed his mind and okay'd BioWare to go ahead and implement same-sex relationships.

BioWare advised that it would be implementing it in the future (no ETA).

Some hate-groups recently found out this was going to be implemented and is calling for a ban/boycott of the game, even though it's not currently in the game.

EA recently released SWTOR figures as 2 million copies sold and 1.7 million active accounts.

Well, it looks like I need to change the name of my Level 49 Bounty Hunter. Apparently EA doesn't like the movie 16 Candles because they informed me that "Longdukdong" is an inappropriate name. I'm guessing a guy I knew back in high school with the last name "Dong" wouldn't have been able to use his real name. At least they didn't outright ban me. What to do... what to do...

It's not EA or BioWare, it's another player who found your name to be offensive and reported it as being "racist" or as being an "inappropriate phrase".

BioWare doesn't go looking for naming violations, they only act upon it if someone complains.

                              Nice!

I hope they steam roll Blizzard and WOW to finally put them back in their place. So far I'm officially hooked, re-rolled characters for the 5th time and finally settled on a Jedi Sentinel... Fits my play style and after getting a full day to veg and grind I'm settled in for the long haul... They really did an amazing job making all the classes super fun and balanced...
