    Ipod Nano 1st Gen Recall

For those of you who still have the 1st Gen Nano, Apple is recalling them due to the battery possibly catching fire.

I am not sure exactly what the will replace it with, hopefully then new 8Gb nano.

I will be calling the Apple Store tomorrow to see about bringing it in for the swap.

Apple is offering replacements for its first-generation iPod nano, which includes a battery that might overheat for some users.

The article explains what is going on. It has a link to Apple on registering online for replacement for your Nano.

The news articles made it appear that you could bring it in to the Apple Store for exchange.
I called and they will only "assist" in filling out the info on the website.
So, I will wait for my shipping package to arrive and then send it in and wait six weeks to see what the send me to replace my 1st Gen.

Chances are they'll just replace the battery.

Since they clearly state that if you send in a "personalized" nano, you will not recieve a personalized nano as a replacement, it looks like they probably have a stock of refurbished 1st Gen Nanos ready to ship out as replacements.

...and there is a 6-week lag time so they are probably fixing all these Nanos to be redistributed again. Basically, we get a brand new battery.

Did anyone get the box Apple's message states they will send in 2 business days for sending your old Nano back to them with? Its been a full week for me, and no sign of the "box".

Nope. I've been waiting a week for the box too.

                              This is from the article.

Update: Mashable reports that the iPods will be replaced with first-generation iPods, not a more recent model, though the company declined to comment on how many first-gen iPods it still had in stock
So its just going to be first gen ipods, whether they are nanos or one of the others is a good question.
