    asus transformer

    Anyone have one of these?

Looking for an Android tablet and this seems to be the best out there.

    What are the strong/weak points?

My boss had one. It's heavier than a tablet, it is more like a PC. The build quality is good, and the brand Asus is like the Sig Sauer of PC computers. They are one of the top PC manufacturers who manufacture everything from circuits to motherboards. They have local tech support I think.

I think they are coming out with a new one so if you don't have to have the latest and greatest, you should be able to get a good deal on one.

I see best buy is having a sale on these, specs said it weighs 2lbs, but I think it's awesome a dock is available.

Will the dock allow it to print(via bluetooth), plug in flash drives and connect external hard drive?

If you intend on using it like a laptop you will be very disappointed.

Toshiba Thrive and Samsung Galaxy Tablet's are both 10.1" and it seems like these are good contenders too. I've owned a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" and it was pretty cool. Asus Transformer is neat because you can buy what seems a bunch of accessories including a full keyboard (no 10 key). The new Samsung Galaxy Tab just released Android 3.2 and supports USB HOST (allowing you to possibly hook up a Ext. Hard Drive or Camera Connection which the Galaxy Tab 7" and 8.9" do not support)

It's really the only thing I have been considering for black friday. Asus will have a new version in December so we may see these prices after the new year anyway.

I've had the Transformer with the dock since it was released. It's a great value. The browser force closes OFTEN. I'm not sure what causes it, but Asus as released a lot of updates for this tablet since I bought it.

The new Asus Transformer Prime will probably fix the forced closed problem, but at $650 for both the tablet and dock, you could get a solid used or average new laptop for that price.

On another note, Corbin, I find that I use my tablet more than my computer these days. I also grab the tablet anytime I'm out of town. I think any tablet you buy should offer a great keyboard option. Whether it be first party or otherwise.

If the tablet has bluetooth support (don't they all?) you can use any bluetooth keyboard you want. Although the keyboard I bought for my tablet hasn't been used except for a few minutes when I first paired it.

                            ???

I have a transformer, purchased it right after they came out. It was the best tablet I saw for the money - I paid $300 for mine, BB has them for $249 now.

It does everything every other android tablet does, graphics are clean, processor is fast, touch screen is just like my phone - smooth and easy to use. I think its a great tablet.

To say its "heavier" than a tablet? What does that mean - is there a standard weight for tablets? iPad2 weighs 1.33 pounds the Transformer weighs 1.49 pounds.

I don't know about printing - but you can connect an external usb hard drive - you can't do that without the dock.

There are apps that will allow you to use a networked or shared printer. It does it over the wireless network, not bluetooth (are there even bluetooth printers?).
