do you get good cell signal (3g or sprint digital) in your area? If so, just use your cell phone as a modem. Lots of modern smart phones can be made to do that or you can pick up a sprint hot spot. Speeds are really quite good, even sufficient for some gaming.

Satellite will always have huge lag just because the speed of light isn't infinite. You have to beam that signal half a second up and half a second down so each packet is already testing the limits of reliable transmission with 1000ms response times as the base.

Actually, it takes roughly 120ms for the packet to reach the satellite from the ground, and another 125ms to return to earth. Total round-trip time is, at minimum, ~480ms. Virtually every good VSAT provider can provide you with a 500-600ms connection. BGAN takes substantially longer, but that's not VSAT in the traditional sense (as it's UMTS via satellite). If a satellite connection takes longer than 600ms, there's something wrong or they're doing some funny stuff with the traffic.

I have verizon and dont get service where I live, but I do get perfect 3g 150yds up on a hill above my house. You can get att here, and had a wireless card, but it took 75mins to watch a 10min video on youtube. I promptly got my money back.

I used to just tether my phone (when I lived where I had service), and we tether my wifes but she has to pay $30/mth for 3or 4 gb of data, where I pay $30 for unlimited. So we cant really use her phone to much.

I will look into the wisp.

Thanks I appreciate all the help.
