Bad week for technology - Apple FAIL

Updated my phone to IOS 5 and my NDrive GPS application will not load. I get on the phone with Apple support - (pulling teeth). They claim that the app isn't available due to compatibility issues. They also point me to the developer of the product. I ask for a refund since it is Apple that is preventing me access to what I bought and paid for, and it is the Apple Itunes store to whom I paid.

    1. They will not allow me to load my application
    2. They will not allow me to downgrade from IOS 5
    3. They will not refund my money

In short - I purchased a product and used it - Apple will not allow me access to my product and will not refund the purchase amount since it is passed the 120 day refund period. OY VEY

They deinstalled it without my permission, time for another platform...

maybe someone with an iphone will be able to help you. i dont know if jailbreaking it will allow you to access the application without interference from apple. this is one of the reasons i will not use any apple products as far as mobile phones go.

It is up to the developer to keep their product updated, so you can't blame Apple for it not working. This is the reason they pulled it, and why they wont let you re-download it. (even if you could, why would you want it since you can't go back to iOS4.x?) I would imagine once the app is updated they will return it to the app store where you will be able to reinstall it.

Did you speak to the developer?

They won't downgrade my phone so I'm going to jailbreak it. They want to own and control every aspect of the phone but the minute something goes awry they fall back on, "it isn't us." They said they cannot install the older version of the IOS since it isn't supported. I asked if he really believed that there are NO phones out there w/o IOS5.

Simply put, I paid for an application that they are blocking access to. I've been on the phone with them 59 minutes, I'm getting my pound of flesh I assure you.

The app is on my laptop - I am going to force the load using a back door.

I have a really nice .308 and I am going to load up a special round called the IBullet. I'll post the explosive results on Youtube by filimg it with an Android based phone.

i know you can downgrade, but you have to find the correct file for it online. itunes i think saves the original file when doing an upgrade, you just gotta find the folder for it.

Except in apples prerelease of ios5 everything wasn't final. Things changed in the release version. Pretty much impossible for developers to check for any problems.

                standard for Apple:

                No user serviceable parts inside.

Cripes - they design the iphone so you can't R&R the battery.
                Thats just wrong IMHO.

I had to double check the date of this post when I saw 'ndrive'.

This app made the news last year because it is supposedly the first app that Apple used the "Kill Switch" on and deleted the app from user's phones. When did you get this app? From what I can recall, it hasn't been available on iOS since they pulled it.

I've had it for a few years now and it JUST disappeared recently. If they will block access to somehting I legally own, I'm going to retaliate. I am going to begin buying up old Apple devices and shoot them with various weapons in my arsenal.

Definitely looks like a NDrive thing rather than an Apple thing. But people being people will always blame the underlying device rather than the app developer because they don't understand the relationship.

In order to progress an OS upgrade isn't going to be 100% compatible, it simply doesn't happen, EVER. It's up to the developers to fix issues with the upgraded OS, with NDrive they look like they lost their Apple privileges due to some legal issues last year and so your options were, Don't upgrade and keep NDrive or upgrade and Don't keep NDrive. The OP didn't research compatibility issues before upgrading so he is suprised by the problem and now is getting all in a bind over a couple dollar app.

When I went from DOS/Win 3.11 to Win 95x not all my programs worked, that isn't on MSFT that was on the app developers. When I went from Win95x to WinME not all my programs worked.. that isn't on MST that is on the app developers.. etc etc

Upgrading OS breaks things.. if you don't want to break things, don't upgrade.

i see no problem with this. Get on NDrive's *** to update their app.

its your responsibility to confirm 3rd party compatibility when updating your platform's OS.

There are "problems" like this with Android as well. The Market masks some apps from being visible depending on what phone you have.

Of course, those problems can be overcome if you are willing to root the phone, flash a new OS and use an app that unlocks the app masking.

Actually no it isn't... I am not a developer. These devices are meant for the average person, not an application developer. On a windows box when you upgrade there's a warning regarding possible software compatibility. There wasn't one with Apple. All they needed to do was tell me that NDrive was not compatible and would not be available. I would have cancelled the update to IOS5.

Welcome to the world of Apple - DOH!
