nope, running at the minimum specs, my pc was running worse than the console version beta. on console i was consistently in the top half if not top 5 of each game, while on my pc i was bottom half and sometimes bottom 5 due to getting only 20fps avg and getting frame skips. and this was running everything on low or off.

Sounds like you have a pretty old pc or graphics card. Also PC FPS gaming is not the same as the console games.

I was running with a Radeon 5770 with 4Gb of ram and didn't experience any lag from that on Caspian. Though I might double the ram before release, just in case.

Caspian thoughts
- Good size
- Need more vehicles since bastards take off without giving you a ride, and theres no longer the ''Hey give me a ride spotting/request'' function.
- AA guns suck balls (would be cool if you can tow it around with a tank)
- Road Kills are awesome but I would like to see them go flying instead of just ran over
- Optics Package on the Main Battle Tanks makes it fun to send rounds way down the map. I like to park it by the RU deployment hills and send them to checkpoint (D) while spotting people.
- Spotting is still not 100%
- Massive oversteer in the tanks going downhill from RU point.
- JEEP things need long travel suspension to make it fun. You hit a jump and you get tossed out but the vehicle is still 100%
- Love the sniper scope glare
- Not a big fan of the disabled vehicle feature, 1 RPG makes you lose steering, power, etc until someone fixes it. You're basically a sitting duck unless someone hops out to repair it. I know its more realistic that way, but dammit I like being inside armor!
- I like how coaxial weapon for the driver forces you to switch back and forth from weapon key 1 and 2.


My G9x DPI set at 780 for on foot, 1500 for top gunner, 2800 for tank turret are nice, wish there was a way for it to automatically go to DPI depending on where you are.

Anyone know if its worth it to buy a joystick for the choppers and planes?

I think you'll see more benefit from upgrading your graphics card.

Its easy to be in the top 5 with console games because they help you aim...

Anyone know if its worth it to buy a joystick for the choppers and planes?

I only use joysticks for flying... I use an old sidewinder 3d. Piece of junk just keeps on working and won't give me an excuse to go buy a new one.

I haven't got to fly in BF3 with it yet so I don't know how it works. I got to be pretty badass with it in BF2 and 2142. BC2 seemed like more of a console game and the joystick never completely worked right... out of the box the yaw was opposite and required a file edit to fix, couldn't do it in the interface settings. I did all kinds of Airwolf stuff with the cobra in BF2. I miss that game... 2142 was great too.

How do you switch from the keyboard to joystick that fast? I cant image playing the entire game with it but for flying if would help a lot.

i keep the joystick between me and the keyboard. i play with my arms flat on my desk, so the keyboard is a little ways away from me.

nope, there is a separate column for joystick in the options.

First, this thread isnt about boasting. I was lucky in my decision a while back choosing to pre-order the Medal of Honor special edition, and got my BF3 Beta invite yesterday. You will get your Beta tomorrow, and wow, you will be pleased.

Overall, it is fantastic. EA mixed this up with past games and a lot of the sights, sounds and controls will be a throwback to their BF1, BC 1+2, and Medal of Honor. The graphics are really good, and if you are a PC gamer, prepare for your PC to be stretched to its limits. A strong video card will definatelly reward you. I play on Xbox myself.
The map available in the Beta is called Metro/Rush mode. The controls are exactly the same as BC2, and the leveling up unlocking weapons/gadgets is the same. The kits however, are taken from Bad Company one (specialist kit) and playing as assault, my next unlock is defibulator (?!) yet there is a medic class. One issue that might arise is-You can go prone. This worked okay in Black Ops, because the maps are much smaller. BF maps, which are much larger with all sorts of hiding spots=camping/snipe fest. The sounds are lifted from BC2-at least the American voice overs. I liked Medal of Honors sound effects, and I hope to hear some in future play. Speaking of MoH, the lighting/shading is lifted from that game, which is good. Coming out of the subway in Metro, the lighting is familiar to Helmland valley. Another very welcome addition is, if someone is about to squad spawn on you, it lets you know with a countdown. This will allow you to get out of the line of fire so you dont give the enemy two kills.
Two things I didnt witness yet, is the new destruction mode, or if dog tags returned (didnt knife anyone YET). Overall, the Beta is really clean, and a LOT smoother running than MoH's Beta. The game sticks to its BF roots, but will be compared to MW3 (I also play CoD), but judging what I seen so far, MW better be on their toes.

console limit is 32.

i played Caspian on 32 and 64 player servers on the PC. i found the map to be a little on the large size for 32. there was considerably more time spent not engaging the enemy. in fact, i capped a few flags solo in full 32 player maps. that never happened in full 64 player ones - it was pretty much constant contact.
