I have a Droid X that I bought around last Christmas, so 9 or so months ago. Lately I've been having some issues with it just randomly shutting off, freezing and just working a lot slower than it used to. It's not so bad that I can't use it, but it's annoying. Will, or should it help if I were to go into the settings and completely wipe the phone clean and start from scratch?

Boot in to recovery and clear the cache partition. Issues sometimes arise after an update. If clearing the cache doesn't help, wipe the device and start fresh. Be sure your contacts are backed up in gmail or export them to your sd. Since the last update my phone has been randomly turning off as well. I looked in the droid X forums and it seems to be a common problem.
Also, now when I text message the keyboard is very slow to respond to taps, and I find myself waiting for the keyboard when texting.Comment

I've loved my androids. The issues described in this thread are easily fixed. It is dangerous to be right when your government is wrong. -Voltaire

Care to explain how the issue is easily fixed? I'd really like to know.
I'm running the latest OTA update for the DroidX and hundreds of users have been reporting the same issue that I'm having where the phone restarts at random.
I've already done a complete reset of the phone and it still has not changed.
Let it be known, I don't hate droid phones. I think they are great and will be upgrading soon to the newer 4G Droid phones.Comment

I am glad the OTA's cant land on my phone any more. I am setup for manual updating only. Saves me the trouble of dealing with crap updates being shoved down my throat....but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.Comment

You probably got the wrong brand IMO. I highly recommend Motorola. I have had mine for almost 2 years and any problem it has is easily fixed. If you have Motorola, wanna get rid of them? I'll buy them off you.Comment

My wife and I both have Droid X2s. I upgraded from my original X and she from her not-so Incredible. Her phone has been randomly shutting down and the only way to turn it back on is to do a battery pull. We spent about two hours last night fighting with the Verizon store, Customer Service by phone and finally with Motorola directly. The phone is going back to the factory for an inspection.
Meanwhile, both my X and X2 are still working fine... Anyone want an X? lolNow trusted by 34 out of 50 US States, except for that which is my home...

I say take it to a Verizon store. There are some great Android phones out there and there are some real pieces of crap (read: Motorola). I'm on my 3rd Droid 1 and my buddy is on his 4th Droid X. My GF's Droid X also suffers from the issues you describe. I'm convinced that Motorola does not know how to build a bug-free Android device. Everybody I talk to with HTC and Samsung Android phones seems happy.
I'm beyond done with Motorola, and am waiting on the new Droid Prime to upgrade in November.Comment

Without seeing your phone, it's hard to diagnose. There are several things that can cause it to shut down or run slow. Have the Verizon store make sure the automatic roaming is not active. Also, apps are a HUGE factor in this. If you download an app, such as a live wallpaper or anything out of the android market, there is a screen that tells you exactly what the app has access to. (i.e. Full Internet Access, modify/delete sd card contents, etc.). Before downloading an app, make sure the access is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to run the app.
There are apps that are wallpapers and they require "FULL INTERNET ACCESS". Why would an app (especially wallpaper) need that? Always ask yourself that question. The good apps will say "This application requires no special permissions to run". Granted, you are limiting the apps you will want to download by doing this, but I would say just be careful with anything that is not reputable. Adobe and other well known apps are fine.
If all else fails, and you've taken every measure to fix the problem, you may just have a lemon. It happens with ANY type of electronic. I would see about Verizon giving you a replacement phone if this is an ongoing problem. If it's out of warranty, perhaps you have the insurance on it......and maybe it accidentally fell down the stairs! I'm kidding....but you do have options.....Comment
