What Wireless Router to get?

If I were going to buy a new router it would be a Netgear N600 or N750. But I like dual band routers so that I can run computers on the very little used 5ghz band (requires 5ghz adapters for your PCs). That leaves 2.4ghz dedicated for the PS3 and other devices. They aren't cheap but I like that flexibility.

My favorite routers at the moment are the Linksys E3000 Dual Band routers. I've replaced my home router, office router, and boss's home router with it. All setups have been flawless since day 1.

I've been picking up the refurbished models, and then flashing DD-WRT on them. Here's one for $70 for instance: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124419

Then download a few files and read the instructions on how to flash the firmware to DD-WRT and you're all set. Hell, if you were in the San Jose area I could do it for you.

Apple Airport Extreme has been the only rock solid wireless router I've used. I've gone through 4 others. (Linksys/Netgear)

I've found that I am buying replacements every 2 to 3 years with the home router brands that is being listed here.

I've switched over to Cisco routers and found very good prices through ebay. This home has a 1812 router that's been working fine for 3 years. It started out used as well.

Stay with integrated services routers like 880 series or the 1800 series with a later version of 12.4, preferably the T train like 12.4-20T which is what I am using.

You will go through a learning curve to program, even using the web console. But if you are in IT, this will be a good thing. There are representative examples of configs out there. I can send anyone mine, scrubbed of course.

isn't the cisco 1232 an AP not a router...

I have the Cisco-Linksys E3000 running DD-WRT, it's awesome, no problems with it what so ever. Dual band w/ gigabit ethernet, gigabit was a must, my TiVO's are wired with ethernet to make transferring a show from one to the other faster.

I am by no means a tech geek and I have not drank the kool aid but the Apple router has been really great for me. My FIOS didn't have N capability so it was out for x box movie streaming. The apple has dual channel so my old POS wireless g computer doesn't slow it down when I'm streaming stuff on the N side. Great range on it too.
I don't have FIOS tv, just internet so I took the fios router out of the system.
