I would like to chime in..My 80gb launch ps3 died in 2009. I replaced it with a 40gb model which has so far not given me any problems.

However, I am running out of hdd space and I cannot decide wether to upgrade the hdd or buy a new ps3 slim in case the old one takes a crap after the upgrade...

249.99 for a new 120 gb ps3 it's worth it. I've had an original fatboy 80gig since they came out and it's still going strong.

My CECHA 60GB (2007) is still working. I agree with the open space as it heat up so quick. Mine is also on a glass shelf with plenty of space next to my DVR.

If I remember correctly the new "Slim" models do not have the YLOD issue. I would just save yourself the time of repeating these repair jobs and just buy a new one. A buddy of mine had his repaired four times before he broke down and purchased a new model. The slims look better IMHO anyways!

True. But with the production of very few PS2 games happening I doubt that is a huge factor anymore. I still have over 40 PS2 titles, looking to donate them or something since Gamestop and other retailers are not taking them as trades anymore.

You are correct about this one. But the one thing i keep my old PS3 is the PSone game i really like. The classic x-men vs street fighter. It reminds me of my college days. Cutting classes just to go in the arcade and play.

I wonder if the epa took into account all the discarded electornic waste that would come with the removal of lead from solder.
Toyota ecu's used to be bullet proof and practically never the cause of a problem; now I can't begin to count how many ecu's I've replaced.

I was gaming with my nephews when my PS3 just shut off. I saw the yellow and then the flashing red light Google search says its dead. Anybody know of an at home fix?

Sorry to hear about your issue. I experienced the RRoD with my 360-fortunately 4 days before the 3 year extended warranty expired.

Xbox has about the same rate of failures as PS3-higher if you count the first gen console and its bad design.

That said, however, I won't purchase Sony products. Sony and Apple have done more to harm the consumer's fair use rights than most other hardware companies.
