I think my PS3 is dead

I was gaming with my nephews when my PS3 just shut off. I saw the yellow and then the flashing red light Google search says its dead. Anybody know of an at home fix?

RROD? aka Red Ring of Death
If no other fix works...the last resort is to try a reflow.
Search youtube for "PS3 reflow", some good guided there.
Basically heating the circuit/board with a heat gun...then hope it will work again..good luck!

I am still on Nintendo 64...hahaha.

        Yellow Light of Death

MHShooter, yes your PS3 is dead! This happened to me about a year ago. I had a game stuck in the unit and couldn't get it out. If you're willing to take a part the system, you could get it going again. I tore mine apart, was able to get the game out and the unit didn't turn on again.

PM me and I'll send you more info...

I'm sorry sir but it sounds like you got the yellow light of death. My ps3 suffered the same fate last year. I haven't gamed since . You could try a reflow, but it's only a temp fix though.

If you're out of warranty you can either send it to Sony and for $150 they will send you a refurbished unit and you lose all your data. Or for $69.99 you can send it to these guys: http://www.gophermods.com/ and they will fix it and send it back to you within 24 hours.

I sent mine to gophermods for a reflow. It lasted about a month, they did hook me up with a refund though.

Right on gentleman, I look into the gophermods route and the posted videos.

I've done about 5. Its easy just take your time. Heat Is the ps3 killer. Give it room to breath. Meaning no on top of carpet of wood. Mine is on glass and it heats up during online play it sounds like a Turbo. Still kicking though, had it since the first release

Me too. I've always had it on glass or wood dresser, always has had plenty of room around. I'll eventually update this thread with results. May be a while until I find time.

Ya I probably did a reflow at least 10 times. I got it down to a science after awhile. It would work for awhile and then YLOD again. I broke down and bought another. I think these things have a preset timer in them to self destruct after so much game play. If you're just trying to get the game out, and you have a fat PS3, you could do the maintenance thing; turn power switch off, then turn it on while holding the eject button. The huge fan inside your PS will run for about a half a minute, and will spit out your game. Disclaimer: only works on certain models, and have been told not to do it too much.

PS3 Has been revived. Thanks for all the re-flow links/info. It's working good. I can break that thing down into a pile of components in about 10 minutes.

Sorry for your loss! Another craptastic law making things break! Since the PS3 is considered a childs toy, it must contain only minuscule amounts of lead. Well a lead/Tin alloy makes an excellent solder to connect electrical components, but it is not allowed with our laws...

So you can thank the "its for the children" mentality for your broke PS3!
